Still on the cassis of Gevrey, but this has a less rounded and more severe structure. Powerful tannins build almost uncomfortably, but take the fruit and energy along for the ride. L&S (Jan 2013)

(two-thirds vendange entier): Bright, saturated ruby-red. Perfumed, detailed aromas of blackberry, blueberry, licorice and violet. Creamy black fruit and crushed stone flavors are energized and lifted by underlying minerality and an inner-mouth floral character. This very concentrated wine carries impressively on the very long, detailed, chocolatey finish. Rating: 91-94 Stephen Tanzer, www.vinousmedia.com (Dec 2014)

The 2011 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Champeaux is one of the most structured and intense of Dugat’s 1er Crus. Tightly wound, the 2011 nevertheless possesses superb depth and sheer density. With time in the glass, hints of cinnamon, cloves and blueberry jam make an appearance, but only with great reluctance. The Champeaux should only be purchased by the exceedingly patient. The Champeaux was done with 65% whole clusters and aged in 100% new French oak. Drinking range: 2021 - 2031 Rating: 90-92 Antonio Galloni, www.vinous.com (May 2014)

(from a .33 ha of 50+ year old vines that abut Cazetiers; 60% stems). A ripe but more restrained nose of stone, plum and dark berry fruit liqueur scents introduces extract-rich and palate coating medium-bodied flavors that also display an intense minerality. There is a velvety mouth feel to the serious, linear and explosively long finish that displays a trace of the hallmark austerity in a young Champeaux. Terrific potential. 2023+ Rating: 92-94 Allen Meadows, www.Burghound.com (Jan 2013)

Domaine Dugat-Py

Domaine Dugat-Py, along with only DRC, Roumier, Rousseau and Leroy, is rated in the top Three Star category by the 'Classement' published by the Revue du Vin de France. These are the essence of robust Burgundy, wines of huge scale and concentration. Patience is required, so lay down a few grand bottles for your dotage.
