There's a density here which makes it seem much more backward. Structured, chewy and resistant, it unfolds slowly toward a long finish, but it feels as though there is a long way to go yet. L&S (Dec 2013)

Here too there are discreet notes of pain grillé along with vanilla hints on the roasted hazelnut, acacia blossom, pear and white peach suffused nose. There is both good verve and freshness to the medium-bodied and lightly stony flavors that possess fine volume as there is good mid-palate stuffing. This is a generous yet well-balanced effort that is very Meursault in character and the minerality serves to add a subtle lift to the finale. Note that this too will be approachable young yet should reward a few years of bottle age too. 2018+ Rating: 91 Allen Meadows, (Jun 2014)

The 2012 Meursault 1er Cru Caillerets has a fragrant bouquet with lime flower and flinty scents, almost like a Puligny-Montrachet. This is well-defined and focused. The palate is well-balanced with mineral-rich, citrus fruit on the entry. It is lively, quite spicy and fiery with a very controlled but persistent finish that lingers in the mouth. This is excellent. Drink now-2024. Rating: 91-91 Neal Martin, (Mar 2014)

Rating: 90 Tim Atkin MW, (Jan 2014)

Reductive notes on the nose, smoky and almost acrid. Soft acidity, moderate core fruit. Apple blossom. 2015-2019 Rating: 16.5 Richard Hemming - (Jan 2014)

Domaine Fernand & Laurent Pillot

Laurent's wife Marie-Anne inherited half of her family's property, the Pommard domaine of Pothier-Rieusset, and he and his father have now bought the other half. The wines from this domaine represent excellent value, and they age very well too, despite being attractive young.

Laurent's 1992 Grandes Ruchottes came top of a tasting of wines of that vintage in 2012, ahead of some supposedly much 'grander' domaines. Laurent manages to pack in a lot alongside his running of the vineyard. He has a sophisticated microlight which he flies to all corners of France, he keeps and hunts hawks, and conducts the Chassagne brass band as well as dabbling in Mayoral duties - on top of being a father.
