Maury is a Vin Doux Naturel, like Muscat de Beaumes de Venise or de Rivesaltes, but Maury is red and made predominantly from Grenache. It can be aged in the rancio style, but this is the youthful version made in the same way as vintage Port. A deep ruby/purple in colour with full, ripe, bramble jam fruit and Grenache's trademark black pepper to balance the sweetness. It's a relatively simple wine, but renowned for going with chocolate and summer-berry puddings. L&S (Sept 2015)

Domaine Mas Amiel
Mas Amiel is an emblematic historic estate in Roussillon, founded in 1816. Based in Maury, the domaine is fully certified organic and biodynamic, and now produces a range of wines expressing different facets of the Maury terroir, shaped by the surrounding mountains both through marked diurnal temperature variation in summer and through its geological heritage of unique calcoschist soils – giving the wines their signature expressive fruit, excellent freshness and minerality. This terroir, together with the two hundred years of expertise of the Mas Amiel team, is the reason why the estate has become known as a French benchmark for fortified wines: Vins Doux Naturels.
