Yves Confuron is a superstar of the Côte d'Or, boasting one of the most consistent ranges of wines, from village wines like this to grand cru. (When he's not looking after he 11ha family domaine, you will find him making wines at Domaine de Courcel in Pommard.) This is shy and restrained in style with spicy notes and dark red fruit aromas. Tight structure and firm tannins with floral and supple fruit characters. (30 Burgundy 2013s under £25 IB) Drinking range: 2018 - 2024 Rating: 92-92 Decanter Magazine(Mar 2015)
This is aromatically tight to the point of being almost completely inexpressive though it does seem ripe. There is fine density to the very serious and mouth coating middle weight flavors that possess that beguiling quality of inner mouth perfume before terminating in a lingering, firm and focused finale. 2021+ Rating: 88-91 Allen Meadows, www.Burghound.com(Jan 2015)
Rating: 91 Tim Atkin MW, www.timatkin.com(Jan 2015)
Healthy medium red. Ripe aromas of red berries and flowers. Tangy red fruit flavors show noteworthy mineral tension and cut. Finishes with a firm tannic spine to support a slow evolution in bottle. Drinking range: 2019 - 2027 Rating: 87-90 Stephen Tanzer, www.vinousmedia.com(Jan 2015)
Appealingly fresh red fruit on the nose and attack; sweet tannins. Supple texture. Toothsome nugget of sweetness in the middle. Proper Vosne-Romanee substance with elegance. Spot on. From 2018 Rating: 16.5 Sarah Marsh MW, The Burgundy Briefing(Nov 2014)
Domaine J. Confuron Cotetidot
Vignerons since the seventeenth century, the Confuron family even have a strain of Pinot Noir named after them - Pinot Confuron. The domaine has several Grands Crus vineyards as well as the Premier Cru vineyard of Les Suchots, making it one of the very top domaines of the Côte de Nuits. Yves Confuron follows his family tradition of whole-bunch fermentation, giving an extra scent on the nose due to the stems of the grapes remaining intact, and picking very late. One of the strengths of Confuron Cotetidot wines is their ability to age and develop, due to the low yields and old vines that are used, causing them to be more approachable in the medium to long term.
