For my money, the best use of pinot blanc is by the biodynamic wizard Jean-Michel Deiss, who combines it with a fruit salad of other varieties in his sublimely fluent, mineral Alsace blend. David Williams, The Observer (Nov 2016)

Jean-Michel Deiss is one of the leading lights in biodynamics at his 27ha estate, and whole he may be seen as a maverick figurehead he really does believe that a wine's terroir is more important than its grape variety. Here, white peach, apricot and lemon are balanced with a slightly richer structure than usual for Riesling, as well as effortless complexity, freshness and focus. Jean-Michel Deiss's wines are without doubt among the most exciting of the region. His experimental field blends in the wines he likes to call 'level of Premier Cru' are immensely impressive and worth experimenting with - they each have a definite and unique character, and are some of the most fascinating white wines in the world.
