Ripe notes of earth and violets add breath to the cassis and plum aromas that are trimmed in a touch of menthol. There is excellent volume to the very rich and round middle weight plus flavors that possess a velvety mouthfeel on the focused and impressively long if slightly rustic and youthfully austere finish. (these vines range from 50 to 105 years of age; vinified with 60% whole clusters): Deep red with ruby tones. Inviting aromas of cassis, black cherry, violet, licorice and leather. Shows firm acidity but comes across as more pliant than the Vosne villages, displaying an enticing floral quality and noteworthy inner-mouth lift. Finishes with sexy saline minerality. Loïc Dugat told me he used to find this bottling a bit too masculine but that now it's rounder and silkier. Should make an excellent true-to-type Gevrey villages. Domaine Dugat-Py, along with only DRC, Roumier, Rousseau and Leroy, is rated in the top Three Star category by the 'Classement' published by the Revue du Vin de France. These are the essence of robust Burgundy, wines of huge scale and concentration. Patience is required, so lay down a few grand bottles for your dotage.
