SCRIO

2015 Le Macchiole

EN PRIMEUR

Blackberry liquor, black cherry, dark elegant spice, power, density, complexity and concentration. Deep black fruit on the palate, with dark chocolate, spice, blackberry, lithe, rich, but balanced, great concentration and weight of ripe full tannins. Definitely a full throttle example of Scrio. Drinking range: 2022 - 2032L&S (Nov 2018)

75cl bottles (wood case of 6)

* This is a pre-shipment/primeur offer. All orders are accepted under the TERMS of this offer which differ from the terms of the rest of the site.

Deep and saturated in both color and fruit, with core flavors of ripe plum, blackberry and black cherry, this red also offers interwoven notes of earth, vanilla, licorice and black pepper. This is solidly built, yet also polished and balanced, with a long, palate-staining finish. Drinking range: 2021 - 2038 Rating: 95 Bruce Sanderson, The Wine Spectator (May 2019)

Le Macchiole's 2015 Scrio, 100% Syrah, is quite good, but not as expressive as the other wines in the range. It was also bottled later than its siblings, so that might have something to do with how the wine shows. Black cherry, chocolate, new leather, spice and menthol all flesh out in a wine that possesses notable power. Today, Scrio is mostly a wine of texture and density, while varietal notes are not especially evident. The oak is also quite dominant. With 2016, Le Macchiole moves to larger oak for the Syrah, an approach that seems to work better than the smaller French oak barrels used for the 2015. Drinking range: 2022 - 2030 Rating: 93 Antonio Galloni, www.vinous.com (Mar 2019)

A stunning syrah; the real McCoy for the variety. The depth of aroma takes your breath away with bark, tea leaves, peppermint, dried rosemary, thyme, sage, pressed violets, cedar, creme de cassis, blackcurrants and lavender. The palate is incredibly tight and yet, profound in its delivery of flavors. Full body, layer upon layer of fruit of every color on the spectrum, pinpoint acidity and a finish that seems endless. Drink in 2025 and way beyond. Drinking range: 2025 - 2035 Rating: 100 James Suckling, www.jamessuckling.com (Sept 2018)

Initially put onto the wine map by Eugenio Campolmi in 1983, the Le Macchiole estate has been run by his wife Cinzia since 2002. In the heart of Bolgheri, with 22 hectares of vineyard over much of the best soils of the region these are, along with the Sassicaia and Ornellaia's vineyards, also among the oldest and most established vines in Bolgheri. Their careful selection of grape varieties and cultivation techniques according to climate and soil has led them to concentrate on Merlot, Syrah and most importantly Cabernet Franc, a variety which can express itself so well in the hands of Le Macchiole.

All of their wines are marked by a unique and unmistakable character. Full bodied wines, and yet with clean and elegant flavours, leading to great freshness and finesse, they are incredibly sought after world-wide. The estate has been organic since 2002, and they are experimenting with biodynamics.

LE MACCHIOLE PRIMEUR FAQ

WHY ORDER PRIMEUR OR PRE-SHIPMENT? Ordering your wine before it is shipped from the producer means you secure the best possible price before the wines become available in the UK market. It is also the best way to avoid disappointment as some wines will sell out before arrival in the UK.

OFFER: All wines are offered subject to availability and final confirmation.

PRICING: All prices are quoted IN BOND ex-VAT, by the case size stated.

DELIVERY - TIMING: This is a primeur offer so the wines are not yet physically available for delivery. They are expected to be available for delivery in the UK by the end of 2019. We do not anticipate any problems but please be aware that delays to delivery may occur should Britain's possible departure from the European Union result in additional border customs checks or other regulatory requirements. Any additional or unforeseen duties, tariffs, charges or other financial liabilities relating to 'Brexit' must be due to the customer and will be added to orders as required.

DELIVERY - FEES: In bond delivery to an Elephant Storage account is free of charge. You can find more details about Elephant Storage storage here or contact our Private Client team for more information. Transfer of wines to any third party bond (i.e. not Elephant Storage) will incur an administration charge of £16.50 + VAT for all orders under £1,000. If you require wines duty paid, please indicate this in your Wishlist order form and we will issue an invoice inclusive of duty & VAT. We will then ship the wines to your nominated address on arrival in the UK subject to our usual Delivery Terms.

PAYMENT: All orders will be invoiced for immediate payment by cheque, cash, debit card or cleared funds to our account. We regret that we cannot accept credit cards for primeur orders.
