TONGUE IN GROOVE
2015 Pinot Noir Cabal Vineyard
|Origin||New Zealand, South Island|
Ripe and attractive black-cherry and plum aromas with a neat thread of spicy and earthy, savory notes. Supple, fleshy and silky palate with juicy, ripe and spicy red-cherry flavors, finishing fresh and luscious. Drink or hold. Screw cap. Rating: 93 James Suckling, www.jamessuckling.com (Oct 2018)
*Case price discount: Mix any 12 bottles (or 9l equivalent) of wine or 6 bottles of Champagne, Spirits, Sweet Wine or Fortified to get the 'case price' for each bottle.
Concentrated and sweet fruit on the nose, with strong oak influence on the palate. Firm and full, with typically boisterous fruit, but plenty of complexity and length too. The toasted oak character is perhaps a little dominant. Drinking range: 2018 - 2028 Rating: 17 Richard Hemming MW - www.JancisRobinson.com (Aug 2019)
This is developing beautifully, with nicely integrated dark fruit, cherry, loganberry, undergrowth and dark chocolate. The acidity keeps the mouth feel fresh and balanced, plenty of woodland fruit, rich tannins shape the wine and drive the length on the finish.L&S (Jan 2021)

Tongue in Groove
Six friends, five of them Roseworthy graduates (although the winemaker, Lynette Hudson, is a graduate of Lincoln) were prompted to form this 'perfect fit' team by the Canterbury earthquake and the realisation that they had to get on with doing something themselves as well as working for others. All well-connected in the NZ wine scene, they are able to source outstanding fruit and clearly have the expertise to turn this into outstanding wines. Check out their website at http://tongueingroove.co.nz/about/. Their first releases have already caused quite a stir - but are very limited in quantity.
You know, you can be too traditional. Ring the changes, ditch the claret, bin the Burgundy, say "non" to Europe. Since Columbus sailed the ocean blue back in 1492 there's been a New World, and that New World is keen to sell us wine. Fragrant New Zealand Sauvignon, gutsy Californian Zinfandel, elegant Argie & Oregon Pinot Noir, elegant Australian and some new and exciting Mourvedre from Lodi await. Tuck in.
