The 2015 Extra Brut Vieilles Vignes du Levant Grand Cru is really in the zone. Candied apricot, ginger, dried flowers, hazelnut and spice saturate the palate. The 2015 exudes presence and class right out of the gate. All of the gravitas of the 60+ year-old vines comes through in the glass. Moreover, it shows none of the vegetal notes that afflict so many wines in this vintage. Readers in search of a Champagne with a good deal of aromatic and flavor complexity will adore this. Dosage is 2 grams per liter. Disgorged: April 2024; multiple disgorgements throughout the year. Drinking range: 2025 - 2035 Rating: 96 Antonio Galloni, www.vinous.com (Nov 2025)

Produced from two old-vine plots (one planted in 1962 and the other in the late 1930s) of east-facing vines within the Bourron du Levant lieu-dit in Cramant and matured in a combination of Stockinger vat (50%) and 228-liter and 500-liter barrels, it’s full of pastry-forward notes mingling with ripe citrus, walnut and pear. Full-bodied and enveloping, it’s the most powerful rendition since 2012. Layered and with old-vine concentration and succulent yet vibrant acidity, this is a wine of controlled richness, concluding with an expansive, mineral-laced finish informed by its chalk subsoil (under a thin layer of clay). Originally known as Vieille Vigne de Cramant, this was the first single-vineyard Champagne created by Pierre Larmandier in 1988, and it has maintained a strong record since. Drinking range: 2024 - 2040 Rating: 95 Kristaps Karlklins, The Wine Advocate (Dec 2024)
Champagne Larmandier-Bernier
Pierre and Sophie Larmandier and their sons Arthur and now Georges too (joined September 2021) are determined to make wines as true as possible to their origins in their different vineyards. These are split into around fifty separate parcels spread across the Côte des Blancs in the grand cru villages of Cramant, Chouilly, Oger and Avize, and the premier cru of Vertus.
All but three of the parcels (representing 0.5 hectares) are farmed using non-officially certified biodynamic methods. Wines are made only from their own 15 hectares of vines, which are on average 33 years old. All of their Champagnes are the purest expressions of Chardonnay.
Working only with natural yeasts the influence of 'terroir' is all important to the style of his wines, so much so that he uses a minimum 'dosage' (if at all) so as not to mask the wines natural characteristics.
Pierre has recently changed the 'Tradition' cuvée, re-launching it as 'Latitude', and it is now also a Blanc de Blancs, with its origins in the vineyards south of Vertus. The old 'Blanc de Blancs cuvée, which is known henceforth as 'Longitude', comes exclusively from vineyards on the Cote de Blancs itself and is classified Premier Cru'.
The Pinot Noir is now reserved exclusively for Pierre's distinctive dark rosé and for the Vertus Rouge Coteaux Champenois.
Awarded the Robert Parker Green emblem in July 2021.
