36 months bottle ageing in the Rathfinny cellars. Just 12000 bottles of this vintage were made. Mostly Pinot Noir - but about a third Pinot Meunier too. First thing to notice is the colour in the glass. There is a gorgeously pretty, pink hue. On the nose this grabs you from the off, really inviting and delicious. There's a good line of sweet, refreshing red fruit, a summer pudding compote. High toned elements too and even some Parma violet, then red flowers and elderflower again. Finishes with a strawberry and red current infused cloud of joyful aromatics. L&S (May 2020)

The 2016 Blanc de Noirs is aged for 36 months in bottle with a dosage of 3g/L. It has a burnished silvery hue. The well-delineated nose is an absolute delight, presenting scents of orange pith, brioche, toasted pine nuts and a hint of white peach in the background. The palate is well poised with a light walnut opening, quite saline in the mouth and precise toward the finish; a touch of blackberry appears on the aftertaste. Impressive energy and sophistication are clear to see in what might be one of England's best Blanc de Noirs. Highly recommended. Drinking range: 2020 - 2030 Rating: 93 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Jul 2020)
My favourite of the four wines is this terrific Blanc de Noirs. I like this style of wine from several other English wineries, too, but no one else makes a bottle of wine like this! Once again, they rather monkey around with convention but adding 3% Chardonnay to the 91% Pinot Noir and 6% Pinot Meunier engine and yet it is impossible to see this white invader in among the gorgeous red fruit notes. The colour is ridiculously ‘pinkish’ and the flavour is decadent and lusty and if you would like to know what this winery does in just one glass, this is the wine to glug. Forward, drinking perfectly already and not especially frothy, this is a mellow, soothing, luxurious fellow and I heartily recommend it.Matthew Jukes www.matthewjukes.com (May 2020)
In 2018, the Sussex estate of Rathfinny launched its first two sparkling wines from an ambitious project started in 2010. Following a successful career in the city, owner Mark Driver and his wife Sarah, set about building from scratch a world-beating wine estate. They have not flinched from this ambition and have patiently waited 8 years to release there first sparklers.
Located on chalk rich soils in a perfect basin near the sea in Sussex's South Downs it is an ideal spot. With a great team put in place and a long-term vision all is auguring well for the realisation of the Drivers' dream.
In 2019 we have seen the second releases and there is a huge amount to admire. Poised, intense and seriously drinkable wines from this very convincing set up.
A superb new edition to our burgeoning selection of English greats and located in the South Downs of Sussex between Brighton and Eastbourne, Rathfinny sets its sights confidently from the start. Right now there are 185 acres of vines but a further 215 acres are to be planted by 2021.
