CHÂTEAU DOISY VÉDRINES

2017 2ème Cru Classé Barsac

Grapes Sémillon, Sauv
Colour White
Origin France, Bordeaux
Village Barsac
Classification 2ème Cru Classé

The 2017 Doisy-Védrines, which was reduced to 6hl/ha this year, is more like Doisy-Daëne! It feels much more linear and less fatter than previous vintages, notes of apple blossom and wild honey gradually unfurl in the glass. The palate is well balanced with a viscous opening, a fine bead of acidity, quite energetic in the mouth with a persistent, mineral finish. I would swear this was Doisy-Daëne but this year their personalities appear swapped...at least at this early stage! Drinking range: 2022 - 2050 Rating: 92-94 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (May 2018)

The 2017 Doisy-Vedrines gives up pretty lime cordial and lemon pie notes with a touch of mandarin peel and hints of chalk dust and ginger ale. The palate features super intense citrus fruit with great purity and depth, matched by wonderful freshness and a long finish. Rating: 92-94 Lisa Perrotti-Brown, RobertParker.com (Apr 2018)

This is very oily and rich with loads of dried mangoes, sliced apples and peaches. Full-bodied, very sweet and honey-like. Rating: 93-94 James Suckling, www.jamessuckling.com (Apr 2018)

A nice, unctuous version in the making, with apricot, melon and peach flavors laced with hazelnut and almond cream notes. A flash of green tea adds intrigue. Rating: 92-95 James Molesworth, The Wine Spectator (Apr 2018)

Château Doisy Védrines

Barsac Deuxième cru 1855 As one might expect, there was originally one Doisy estate. Sometime in the earlier 19th Century, it was divided into three parts - two smaller parts were sold to the Dubroca brothers and Jean-Jacques Emmanuel Daëne becoming the rarely encountered Château Doisy-Dubroca and Château Doisy-Daëne respectively, whilst the larger proportion became Château Doisy-Védrines. In 1851, it was purchased by the Boireau family who's descendents the, Castéja family, own Doisy-Védrines to this day. Around 30ha of vineyard are planted with 85% Semillon and 15% Sauvignon Blanc. Fermentation is in stainless-steel before and 18 month aging period in oak, of which 70% is new. Doisy-Védrines is a richer rounder style than Doisy-Daëne. Interestingly, although entitled to the Barsac appellation, the wines are always labelled as Sauternes.
