100% Whole Bunch. They have 3 parcels here, the most important of which is more than 90 years old - and this makes up over half of the final blend, while the others are 75 and 50+. So pure. So intense though. It is light on its feet but the density is extraordinary, the concentration off the charts. And yet still a litheness and a power. It drives on, laden with dark red fruits, some forest bramble and violets but green leaf too and some tobacco. Really intense, drier feel than the Mazoyeres. Complex and firm. Incredible mass and mineral energy - mega wine. This will need time. Drinking range: 2024 - 2040 L&S (Nov 2018)

(from .25 ha parcel of 60+ year old vines planted at a density of 14,000/ha in Mazis-Bas – vinified with 90% stems). The gorgeously complex nose features very ripe aromas of various dark berries, spice, violet, earth and a touch of rose petal. There is once again almost painful intensity to the muscular big-bodied flavors that brim with sappy dry extract that pushes the very firm tannins to the background on the structured, austere and exceptionally powerful finale where a hint of acid tang arises that does not cut the length short. Drinking range: 2037 - Rating: 94 Allen Meadows, www.Burghound.com (Jan 2020)

The 2017 Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru comes from three parcels of vines up to 90-year old and matures entirely in new oak with around 90% whole bunch fruit. It has a wonderful bouquet with expressive red fruit suffused with minerals, hints of marmalade and quince developing in the glass. The palate is very well balanced with a little more backbone and structure than the Mazoyères-Chambertin, perhaps just a little more heaviness, yet very persistent and with ample freshness. It will need a decade in bottle. Drinking range: 2026 - 2050 Rating: 93-95 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Jan 2019)

Delicate peppery fruit sweetness on the nose, dark fruit and subtle oak spice. An attractive dusty fragrance. On the palate, very fresh and dark-red fruited. Super-fine dusty/mineral texture adding elegance. The oak is very obvious at the moment but the finesse and concentration of the fruit should keep pace. Chewy on the finish but the whole is healthy and long with a fresh, lively finish. Dry persistence. Drinking range: 2025 - 2037 Rating: 17.5 Julia Harding MW, www.JancisRobinson.com (Dec 2018)
