This is charming! Lovely full feel, quite glossy almost but quite powerful. Then the structure begins to build. There nicely driven, focused but with some serious guts. Fine grained tannin. 'More torréfié' says Loic and he is right. It stays supple - not overdone, but full and soft. More Pommard with some power and breadth. Vines here are nearly 80 years old. Defined and so joyous with energetic push. Drinking range: 2022 - 2028 L&S (Nov 2018)

(vinified with 50% whole cluster). This is perhaps even cooler and more restrained with its layered array of various red berries, freshly turned earth and a whiff of oak. The mid-palate mouthfeel of the middle weight plus flavors is quite refined yet this contrasts substantially with the moderately rustic, austere and serious finale. This very powerful effort is expressly built to age and is one that is definitely going to need it. Excellent. Drinking range: 2032 - Rating: 90-92 Allen Meadows, www.Burghound.com (Jan 2019)

Loïc Dugat-Py remarks that this vineyard is always the first to be picked but the last to be pressed. From vines located just outside Château de Pommard, the 2017 Pommard La Levrière Vieilles Vignes has a generous bouquet with red plum mixed with crushed strawberry, hints of kirsch and marmalade developing in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin that frame a sweet core of fruit, tinged with white pepper, sea salt and a hint of tangy marmalade on the dense finish. Drinking range: 2022 - 2036 Rating: 88-90 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Jan 2019)

Intense aroma that is both spicy and slightly floral with oak and fruit spice, it seems. On the palate, more savoury, grainy tannins, firm texture, robust and yet with plenty of fruit at the core. Needs time to smooth out. Drinking range: 2025 - 2035 Rating: 16.5+ Julia Harding MW, www.JancisRobinson.com (Dec 2018)
