(from Les Violettes and Les Quartiers de Nuits; vinified with 65% whole cluster). An agreeably fresh nose is more floral still with its notes of lavender and violet along with hints of spice suffusing the red and dark currant scents. There is once again excellent drive to the more concentrated and just as well-detailed medium-bodied flavors that are dusty, youthfully austere and slightly more structured finish. The 2017 Vosne-Romanée Vieilles Vignes, which comes from the lieu-dit "Quartier de Nuit", includes two-thirds whole bunch fruit. This works beautifully on the nose with black cherries, crushed strawberry and wilted violet petals. The palate is fresh and crisp on the entry, quite grippy in the mouth with some new oak to be subsumed on the dense finish, so give this three or four years in bottle. Three barrels produced. Domaine Dugat-Py
Domaine Dugat-Py, along with only DRC, Roumier, Rousseau and Leroy, is rated in the top Three Star category by the 'Classement' published by the Revue du Vin de France. These are the essence of robust Burgundy, wines of huge scale and concentration. Patience is required, so lay down a few grand bottles for your dotage.
