Grapes Sémillon, Sauv
Colour White
Origin France, Bordeaux
Village Barsac
Classification 2ème Cru Classé

Deep and rich but dark too. There is some nice butterscotch and rich marmalade fruit. Apricot too but baked and darkly rich again. Almost molasses - but just some lift-off leaving a caramel-like memory on the palate. L&S (Apr 2019)

Ripe pears on the nose. Thick and viscous and rich, ripest of lemon fruit with a touch of orange. Lemon bonbons. Deep and just fresh enough for harmony. Drinking range: 2023 - 2030 Rating: 16.5 Julia Harding MW, www.JancisRobinson.com (Apr 2019)

A little syrupy, but some attractive sweetness and it’s a little spicy. Full-bodied. Oily texture at the end. Rating: 89-90 James Suckling, www.jamessuckling.com (Apr 2019)

The balance is extremely good, between richly textured stone fruits and plenty of grip, with poise and lift. The limestone and red clay soils of Barsac have really helped here, where the grapes were able to keep their freshness even while the botrytis took its time to install. 37% new oak was used. A yield of 10.5hl/ha. Drinking range: 2022 - 2040 Rating: 95 Jane Anson, Decanter (Apr 2019)

Château Doisy Védrines

Barsac Deuxième cru 1855 As one might expect, there was originally one Doisy estate. Sometime in the earlier 19th Century, it was divided into three parts - two smaller parts were sold to the Dubroca brothers and Jean-Jacques Emmanuel Daëne becoming the rarely encountered Château Doisy-Dubroca and Château Doisy-Daëne respectively, whilst the larger proportion became Château Doisy-Védrines. In 1851, it was purchased by the Boireau family who's descendents the, Castéja family, own Doisy-Védrines to this day. Around 30ha of vineyard are planted with 85% Semillon and 15% Sauvignon Blanc. Fermentation is in stainless-steel before and 18 month aging period in oak, of which 70% is new. Doisy-Védrines is a richer rounder style than Doisy-Daëne. Interestingly, although entitled to the Barsac appellation, the wines are always labelled as Sauternes.
