POMMARD

This smoky, dense wine should delight lovers of very ripe Burgundy. The colour is deep, and the aromas are lush and slightly figgy, with notes of dark chocolate and ground coffee. The texture is super-rich and velvety, with a plump feel on the palate and abundant extract. With time, the roasted side of this wine will likely come to the fore since it lacks the purity of fruit of the 2019 and the freshness of 2017. The thick and almost unctuous broad-shouldered flavors coat the palate with sappy dry extract that helps to buffer the notably firm tannic spine shaping the warm, grippy and youthfully austere finale where a hint of chocolate emerges. Like the Fremiers, this has the stuffing and structure to age for years but whether it will be more interesting than now is frankly difficult to predict.
