Vineyard La Levrière

Always a beefy step change after the nicely spiced red fruit of the Gevreys. Yes there it is - suddenly a firm front here. More guts, more tannin give the impression of much broader shoulders. And yet it still zings - there is still that bounce of energy. Lithe dark fruit, blacker and less sweet here - but beautifully ripe. Powerful, but delicious. L&S (Nov 2019)

The 2018 Pommard La Levrière is showing very nicely from bottle, offering up complex aromas of raspberries and cherries complemented by hints of loamy soil, licorice, dried flowers and espresso roast. Medium to full-bodied, layered and elegantly muscular, it's as refined as it was in barrel, built around powdery tannins and lively acids. Drinking range: 2025 - 2055 Rating: 91 William Kelley, The Wine Advocate (Jan 2021)

(vinified with 50% whole cluster). While the nose is presently firmly reduced there is good freshness and verve suffusing the overtly powerful, dense and serious medium weight plus flavors where there is plenty of salinity on the youthfully austere, firm, dusty and balanced finish. A high quality villages. Drinking range: 2033 - Rating: 89-92 Allen Meadows, www.Burghound.com (Jan 2020)

Loïc Dugat-Py began the harvest with the 2018 Pommard La Levrière, and this is the ripest cuvée in the cellar at 13.5% alcohol. Offering up aromas of cherries, plums and red berries mingled with nuances of espresso roast—always, says Loïc, a signature of this cuvée that emerges during fermentation—smoked meats and spices, it's medium to full-bodied, succulent and fine-boned, with a deep core of fruit and impressive structural elegance. This was vinified with 50% whole cluster and matured in 40% new oak. Rating: 90-92 William Kelley, The Wine Advocate (Jan 2020)

Domaine Dugat-Py

Domaine Dugat-Py, along with only DRC, Roumier, Rousseau and Leroy, is rated in the top Three Star category by the 'Classement' published by the Revue du Vin de France. These are the essence of robust Burgundy, wines of huge scale and concentration. Patience is required, so lay down a few grand bottles for your dotage.
