Lovely mineral attack - then some toasty wood kicks in. Nicely poised - good bite and mineral cleanliness - not deeply textured for now. Sleek and polished. But bright and bouncing nonetheless. A good Puligny character and soul. L&S (Nov 2019)

The 2018 Puligny-Montrachet Champ-Gain 1er Cru has a very laconic nose that, despite aeration, refuses to give much away. The palate is balanced with orange peel and apricot notes, but it lacks mineralité and terroir expression. For early drinking. Drinking range: 2020 - 2025 Rating: 87 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Dec 2020)

Reduction currently masks the underlying fruit though not so much to hide the evident ripeness. There is slightly better energy and delineation to the still quite round and lush middle weight flavors that exude a subtle minerality on the sappy, dry and linear finale. This nicely refreshing effort should drink well young but reward a few years of bottle age. Drinking range: 2024 - Rating: 89-91 Allen Meadows, www.Burghound.com (Jun 2020)

A fine follow-up to the excellent 2017, Faiveley's 2018 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Champ Gain mingles aromas of crisp orchard fruit and orange oil with nuances of nutmeg and pastry cream in an incipiently complex bouquet. Medium to full-bodied, supple and satiny, it's lively and precise, with a chalky finish. Rating: 92-94 William Kelley, The Wine Advocate (Jan 2020)
