Again this is intensely concentrated. Blue-edged bright ruby colour, powerful and intense, seems to have lovely acidity and there's a nice freshness, although it's not quite in the ethereal linear style that is usual here. L&S (Nov 2019)

(from 5 different parcels located in La Columbière, Champs Goudins and Le Pré de la Folie, which are contiguous vineyards located below the village and above the Route Nationale). This isn’t quite as ripe as the more elegant nose displays a mix of red and blue pinot fruit, spice and subtle floral wisps. The sleeker and finer middle weight flavors are not particularly dense but they possess fine depth and persistence on the moderately firm finish. Drinking range: 2025 - Rating: 89-91 Allen Meadows, www.Burghound.com (Jan 2020)

Aromas of raspberries, spices, smoked duck and espresso roast, framed by a deft application of new wood, introduce the Mugnerets' 2018 Vosne-Romanée Village, a medium to full-bodied, lively and nicely concentrated wine with fine tannins, a ripe core of fruit and a nicely defined, energetic finish. Since La Colombière was bottled separately this year, the 2018 represents a blend of lieux-dits Les Chalendins, Le Pré de la Folie, Les Champs Gourdin and Les Croix Blanches. Rating: 90-92 William Kelley, The Wine Advocate (Jan 2020)

The 2018 Vosne-Romanée Village comes from three or four parcels within the commune. It has slightly darker fruit compared to the La Colombière, perhaps not quite as pixelated in style. The palate is fleshy and forward with succulent ripe tannins, good density and layer of raspberry, strawberry and spicebox toward the finish. Just a delicious Vosne-Romanée. Drinking range: 2022 - 2030 Rating: 89-91 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Jan 2020)

Domaine Georges Mugneret-Gibourg

Domaine Mugneret-Gibourg was founded in 1933 on the marriage of Jeanne Gibourg and André Mugneret. Holdings then consisted of Bourgogne, village Nuits, village Vosne and Echezeaux. Their son Georges, an opthalmologist by day, added to the vineyards, but his acquisitions (Nuits 1ers Crus Vignes Rondes and Chaignots, Chambolle 1er Cru Feusselottes, and Grands Crus Clos Vougeot and Ruchottes Chambertin) were kept separate as Domaine Georges Mugneret.

On Georges' death in 1988, his widow Jacqueline and daughter Marie-Christine took over. Marie-Andrée, the younger daughter joined them a little later having completed her studies as an oenologist. In 2009 Jacqueline retired and the two domaine names were put together to become Domaine Georges Mugneret-Gibourg, ending the prior confusion of labels.

The sisters have proved more than safe hands as far as the winemaking is concerned, and these are top-flight Burgundies with that elusive balance of enough concentration allied with delicacy of expression and the capability to age well. All the vineyard management has been brought in-house (the domaine previously relied on two métayeurs for part of the vineyard) and the quality has reached new heights, its wines some of the most sought-after in the Côte de Nuits.

In 2017 Marie-Christine 's daughter Lucie joined the domaine, and Marion and Fanny, daughters of Marie-Andrée are now also part of the team.
