Picked on the 10th September, so one of the earlier plots. It's got the mouth filling Dugat-Py old vine richness, but Loïc describes it as 'light, nervy and fruity', so everything is relative. Certainly along with the depth there is a fresh acidity which makes it very juicy and approachable. Drinking range: 2028 - 2038 L&S (Oct 2020)

Vinified with 20% whole clusters and matured in entirely used barrels, Dugat-Py's 2019 Beaune Les Beaux Fougets is very promising. Offering up inviting aromas of cherries, spices and loamy soil, it's medium to full-bodied, layered and gourmand, with fine depth at the core, lively acids and supple tannins. This is a fine addition to the range, and its upfront charm means that it will offer more immediate drinking than the domaine's Côte de Nuits bottlings. Beaux Fougets just north of Pommard Epeneaux. Bottom of the hill. 60- to 70-year-old vines. (More made in 2020 than 2019 because of the care the Dugats put in to this new purchase from Dom Newman.) Cask sample. Sumptuous nose! Really thrilling concentration on the nose. Nice freshness on the end. Not at all sweet. More like a Nuits! Domaine Dugat-Py

Domaine Dugat-Py, along with only DRC, Roumier, Rousseau and Leroy, is rated in the top Three Star category by the 'Classement' published by the Revue du Vin de France. These are the essence of robust Burgundy, wines of huge scale and concentration. Patience is required, so lay down a few grand bottles for your dotage.
