Smoky minerals on the nose, palate is fat and relatively soft with an almost sweet middle, the acidity giving energy and purity, lots of breadth to the flavours. Drinking range: 2022 - 2030 L&S (Oct 2020)

This bottling has been designated Fairendes on the label since 2012. The plot was replanted in 2000 on 161/49 rootstock without much sign of damage yet. Fuller yellow in colour but still with a light green tint. Lightly perfumed with verbena and sandalwood, attractively poised, middleweight, not a thumping great Morgeot, more in white fruit with a little barrel toast and notable persistence. On the sunny side too. Rating: **** Jasper Morris - Inside Burgundy  (Mar 2022)

This is the first wine to display any appreciable reduction, but the underlying fruit seems ripe. Otherwise there is excellent mid-palate density to the powerful and intense medium weight plus flavors that coat the mouth with sappy dry extract and buffers the firm acid spine shaping the impressively long finish. This isn’t a wine of refinement, though neither is it rustic, but I like the balance and upside development potential. Drinking range: 2027 - Rating: 90-93 Allen Meadows, www.Burghound.com (Jun 2021)

The 2019 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Morgeot Les Fairendes unfurls in the glass with notes of mirabelle plum, clear honey, white flowers and fresh pastry. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and textural, it's deep and enveloping while remaining mouthwateringly bright and mineral. This is one of the more gourmand wines in the range. Rating: 91-93 William Kelley, The Wine Advocate (Jan 2021)

Domaine Henri Germain

Jean-François Germain was joined in 2018 by his daughter Lucie - who is now helping to run this small (7ha) domaine.

The Chassagne vineyards came through his mother, a Pillot, and Jean-François is married to François Jobard's daughter, so they are quite intertwined with some of our other producers. The Poruzots comes from the rows next to Remi Jobard's. In terms of winemaking the Germains are always happy to let nature take its course, and in the vineyards they follow as natural a system of viticulture as possible (organic, not certified).

These are concentrated, tightly wound wines from one of Burgundy's coldest cellars. Alcoholic fermentations can take months and the malolactics are often late, so they have always gone for long élevage in old barrels, always for two winters, and the Premiers Crus usually for 22 months. Slow to develop, they show wonderful crystalline purity. New wood is used very sparingly, just to replace barrels sold when they get to ten years old.
