The 2019 Moulin Saint-Georges has a focused, liquorice-tinged bouquet, cedar and tobacco, touches of mint emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, a little dry, feeling quite linear and strict towards the finish. Biding its time? It just needs to show a little more flair. I expected more. Tasted blind at the Southwold annual tasting. Drinking range: 2025 - 2042 Rating: 90 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Feb 2023)

The 2019 Moulin Saint-Georges is another wine in this range from the Vauthier family that shows decidedly mid-weight structure. Bright acids are especially present today. Moulin Saint-Georges is an understated wine that isn't especially obvious today, but that appears to have quite a bit of potential once it fully comes together. I especially like the vibrancy here. Drinking range: 2025 - 2039 Rating: 90 Antonio Galloni, www.vinous.com (Feb 2022)

The 2019 Moulin Saint-Georges has lilting bouquet of raspberry preserve, cranberry and light undergrowth scents that gain intensity with aeration. A touch of orange pith emerges with time. The palate is medium-bodied, taut and fresh, with supple tannins and a fine-grained, quite cohesive finish. There is a little more sophistication and elegance embroidered into this Saint-Émilion than recent vintages. Drinking range: 2026 - 2050 Rating: 93 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Feb 2022)

Fresh, red-berry aroma with an almost burgundian edge. Palate round, juicy and lifted with finely etched tannins. Harmonious and almost approachable now. Drinking range: 2024 - 2034 Rating: 16 James Lawther MW, www.JancisRobinson.com (Jun 2020)

Château Moulin Saint Georges

Owned by Alain Vauthier, Château Moulin Saint Georges is situated in Saint-Emilion and covers 7 hectares. The vineyards are well sited on the south-west facing 'Pavie' slope. The average age of the vines on this slope is 26 years old, and they are planted at a density of 6500 vines/hectare. Vauthier believes that the quality of his wine is a direct result of how well the vines are tended to, therefore yields are kept extremely low in order to concentrate the flavour, and all grapes are hand-harvested to ensure only the best grapes are used in production.
