COTEAUX BOURGUIGNONS ROUGE

2019 Cuvée Le Pierrot Domaine Thomas-Collardot

Grapes Gamay, Pinot Noir
Colour Red
Origin France, Burgundy
District Côte d'Or
Sub-district Côte de Beaune
Village Coteaux Bourguignons
ABV 13%

20% Gamay, 80% Pinot, this is cooled overnight, then the big stems removed, than the rest is foulé by foot and goes into the vat. Mathieu does a remontage each day and a couple of pigeages - the result is a very juicy fruit with just enough of a background structure to make it really drinkable. Drinking range: 2021 - 2024 L&S (Oct 2020)

(from a 70/30 blend of pinot and gamay; 100% whole clusters). Mild reduction overshadows what appear to be notably ripe fruit aromas. Otherwise the delicious flavors are built on their fruit while exhibiting hints of rusticity and bitter pit fruit on the nicely lingering finish. To enjoy young though I would suggest giving this a quick aeration first. Drinking range: 2022 - Rating: 86 Allen Meadows, www.Burghound.com (Apr 2021)

One third gamay, two thirds pinot. Much less extraction this year, the 2018 having been a bit of a monster. This time vinification is almost all whole bunch, with pumping over instead of punching down. The 2019 has much better balance than the 2018, with a wealth of fruit kept fresh by the acidity of the gamay grape. Just a little firm at the finish to stop it being complete “glou glou” as they say in the trendy wine bars. Tasted: December 2020 Rating: 85-87 Jasper Morris - Inside Burgundy  (Dec 2020)

Domaine Thomas-Collardot

Jacqueline Collardot and her son Matthieu own and run this exciting 'micro-domaine' in the heart of Puligny-Montrachet. Matthieu completed his studies in 2019 and joined Jacqueline permanently, just in time for the harvest. Now they are working together we look forward to a slightly bigger production - as while she worked alone she was limited to what she could achieve all on her own, with excess grapes being sold on.

At only 2.5ha, this is an artisan project, allowing them to give unrivalled time and care to every parcel she has. Jacqueline inherited these vineyards from her father’s Domaine Thomas Pierre in 2010 after he retired and is slowly raising the profile with her incredible care and attention. Although there may not be much quantity - the quality is impeccable. These are classically shaped, bright wines that express their various Puligny terroirs perfectly.

From 2020 the domaine is now organically certified.
