A fat texture, the power wrapped, but the power is there too. Lots of concentrated silky suave texture, but bulk of a grizzly even if it has got a soft pelt. Cassis and spicy black fruit, it just becomes more and more interesting and mouth watering. Amazing length. Drinking range: 2035 - 2050 L&S (Oct 2020)

Reduction overshadows the fruit at present. More interesting are the succulent and generously proportioned medium weight plus flavors that are very rich, even plush, and thus perhaps a bit less well-delineated than usual though the hallmark minerality is certainly present in spade. The intensity really builds as this sits on the palate and overall, this should be outstanding in time. Drinking range: 2036 - Rating: 92-94 Allen Meadows, www.Burghound.com (Jan 2021)

Brooding and reserved, the 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Lavaux Saint-Jacques unwinds in the glass with notes of wild berries, cassis, smoked meats, rich soil tones, mandarin rind and peonies. Medium to full-bodied, elegantly muscular and concentrated, it's seamless and complete, with a deep, tightly wound core, beautifully refined tannins and a long, penetrating finish. This is a serious Lavaux Saint-Jacques that will require some patience. Rating: 93 - 95+ William Kelley, The Wine Advocate (Jan 2021)

The 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin Lavaux Saint-Jacques 1er Cru, matured in two-thirds new oak and 50% whole bunch, was more reduced than the Champeaux when I tasted it from barrel. There appears to be a higher proportion of red fruit on the nose here. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins and slightly grainy in texture, offering clementine and marmalade-infused black cherry and wild strawberry fruit. Tangy and full of energy on the finish. This is another great Premier Cru from Loïc Dugat-Py. Drinking range: 2025 - 2045 Rating: 93-95 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Dec 2020)

Domaine Dugat-Py

Domaine Dugat-Py, along with only DRC, Roumier, Rousseau and Leroy, is rated in the top Three Star category by the 'Classement' published by the Revue du Vin de France. These are the essence of robust Burgundy, wines of huge scale and concentration. Patience is required, so lay down a few grand bottles for your dotage.
