This is not a wine I would pick up off the shelves or order from a wine list. I know nothing about the estate, and my experience of Emilia Romagna wines is limited. So, when I tasted this wine and did a double-take on the price, I felt I had to seek out a Lea & Sandeman staff member to confirm my findings. This is a stellar Sangiovese with wild red and black fruit, amazing density and a heroic finish. It gives all of the Sangioveses on the L&S list a reality check with its sheer class. Do not miss out on a chance to taste this wine. Matthew Jukes www.matthewjukes.com (Jul 2022)

From the wonderful Rafaella Bissoni and her beautiful farm up in the hills of Emilia-Romagna, this is always so much fun, sleek and pure with cherry, tobacco, plum and mocha aromas and flavours. Watch out big name Sangiovese - this really is a class act - and incredibly well priced! Unencumbered by oak, it delivers a bright, pertly juicy and very easy drinking style.L&S (Jun 2022)

Bissoni

Raffaella Bissoni has always dreamt of raising the profile of Emilia Romagna's important grape varieties; Sangiovese and Albana. Her aim was to produce fine wines through careful work in the vineyards, being patient and respectful of nature and its cycles. She wanted to bottle not only wine, but also her passion and her love for things done properly. And so in 1988 she founded the Bissoni winery. Nestled on the beautiful hillside of Casticciano, a natural terrace overlooking the sea in the medieval town of Bertinoro. She has always worked organically and treats the farm as a complete ecosystem with vines sharing soil with wildly growing cover-crops. For Rafaella this natural balance is key. Even with the cover crops she wants the land to select what should grow, rather than choosing and manipulating the soil buy planting beans or other well-known solutions. From the 2016 vintage Rafaella has been certified organic although nothing has actually changed in her work. Pure and fresh wines from this true artisan producer. Today, she is living the dream and remains faithful to her values - organically certified these are beautifully crafted wines coming from her 5 hectares of pristine vineyards.
