4 barrels. Nose quite restrained, and, possibly because the the fruit is on the back foot, the oak is slightly to the fore. Good volume of smooth, suave weight. Needs to settle down to find its full expression and distinctiveness, but very satisfying - 'un millésime gourmand' remarks Loïc, and this is certainly testament to that. A wonderfully fresh nose combines notes of plum, exotic tea and lovely spice nuances. The suave and sophisticated medium weight flavors possess a caressing palate impression before concluding in a beautifully complex and focused finale that is decidedly firm but not really austere. There are four barrels of the 2019 Vosne-Romanée Vieilles Vignes, derived as usual from holdings in Les Quartiers de Nuits—from the part of the lieu-dit that is not included within the boundaries of the Echézeaux Grand Cru—and contiguous Les Violettes. Mingling notes of wild berries and raspberries with exotic top notes of mandarin rind, Asian spices and peonies, it's medium to full-bodied, velvety and layered, with a concentrated core of fruit complemented by complexifying carnal nuances. Velvety impression on the nose with some vigour. Lively and very fresh – even with a note of green vegetation. By no means underripe but zestier than most wines from this stable. Domaine Dugat-Py
Domaine Dugat-Py, along with only DRC, Roumier, Rousseau and Leroy, is rated in the top Three Star category by the 'Classement' published by the Revue du Vin de France. These are the essence of robust Burgundy, wines of huge scale and concentration. Patience is required, so lay down a few grand bottles for your dotage.
