Starting with lemon-lime and ginger zip on the nose as well as jasmine and straw, these aromas are youthful and open yet gossamer. The palate is sturdier with solid fruit substance contrasted by steely acidity and chalky bite. It is a snappy, salty Corton with underlying apple core. Fine fresh mid lemon. The stones are to the fore with a few citrus notes as well. Then kicks on really powerfully, with a touch of oak. This is weighty and impressive but not yet quite in place. The 2020 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru has a lovely bouquet, very Corton-Charlemagne with attractive brioche and praline scents interwoven through the citrus fruit. The lack of the word 'domaine' in the name signals that this is a négociant wine from Thibault Liger-Belair. On the whole Thibault buys grapes having tended the vines with his own team, so that the wines are domaine wines in all but name.
