Good intensity, ripe citrus, quince, yellow plum with nice autolytic notes coming through, biscuit, nut and bread with just a touch of something floral. Clean and bright on the palate with rich citrus again, biscuit and toast, great freshness, very pure with excellent length. L&S (Nov 2018)

The Classic Cuvée comes from estate-grown grapes, 30–40% Pinot Noir, 10–20% Pinot Meunier and 50–60% Chardonnay with around 30% reserve wine. This was disgorged in January 2019. It has an attractive bouquet of baked green apples and a subtle leesy note that becomes more prominent with aeration. The palate is pleasantly weighty on the entry, then quite malic, with Conference pears intermingling with Granny Smith apples. Hints of vanilla surface toward the pleasing, easygoing finish. Fine. The NV Classic Cuvée is a blend of 50-60% Chardonnay, 30-40% Pinot Noir and 10-20% Pinot Meunier. This particular cuvée is based on the 2013 vintage, augmented by contributions from 2010 and 2011, also 20% of the 2009 vintage. It spent three years on the lees. It has a generous bouquet with red apple, fresh pear and a touch of Mirabelle. I appreciate the vigor and intensity here. The palate displays fine delineation with hints of strawberry and cherry, nicely weighted in the mouth with a brisk and tensile finish. Like L&S in 2018 Nyetimber are celebrated an important 30th anniversary. In 1988 as Lea & Sandeman was founded, the vines were being planted here in West Sussex. Few vineyards in England are better placed to exploit the similarity between the soils of the South Downs and those of the Champagne region in France than Nyetimber in West Sussex. But it took a couple from Chicago - Stuart and Sandy Moss - to bring the dream to life when they bought Nyetimber Manor in 1986. Vineyards followed from 1988 onwards, and the first vintage released was the 1992.
Nyetimber is now owned by Eric Heerema who already owned a vineyard in West Sussex when he bought Nyetimber in 2006 and had already identified more land for planting. All were amalgamated into Nyetimber which, now, comprises some 350 acres, all planted to Chardonnay and the Pinots Noir and Meunier, making it at the time the biggest vineyard in England.
