We were really excited to discover the wines of Domaine le Sollier last year. A relative newcomer in terms of property (est 2006) and appellation having been granted AOC status in 2013. Nestled up in the Cevennes foothils with Dolomite terroir, limestone & sandy soils, the Olivier brothers are farming 12.5 hectares organically and with little intervention. No need to worry about funky fruit & dark wines, these boys know what they are doing, crafting fresh & bright whites. The 2021 Les Alisiers is freshness personified, laser sharp precision, a blend of Viognier, Vermentino, Sauvignon & Chardonnay, it is a real summer dazzler, white pear, lemon pith and a chalky elderflower finish. The 2020 sold out in the blink of an eye, the 2021 will almost certainly do the same. L&S (May 2022)

Tasted at L&S Rhône Tasting - 20/09/2022
Fresh, light-bodied, crisp and direct with grapefruit tones. Gently mineral finish with some fleshy apricot. Well balanced and expressive. From a relatively new estate in the extreme west of the southern Rhône in the foothills of the Cevennes. An excellent producer across its range. At under £15 a bottle, this represents very good value for money.
Drinking range: 2022 - 2024 Rating: 91 Matt Walls, Decanter.com (Sept 2022)

Domaine le Sollier

Domaine le Sollier is the most westerly domaine in Duché d'Uzés in the foothills of the Cévennes based in the village of Monoblet. A largely calcareous mountainous terrain, the Cévennes enjoys a Mediterranean climate of hot days, balanced by cool nights.

What marks out le Sollier is that it lies on a fault, so the 12.5 hectares of vineyards, farmed by Nicolas Olivier and his brothers, have a mix of different soils. Sandstone, marl, limestone and dolomitic deposits are well drained and allow Nicolas to produce eye-catching wines of great purity.

Low intervention winemaking with minimal sulphur, these are beautifully detailed wines of great persistence and immense drinkability.
