CHÂTEAU FEYTIT CLINET

2022 Pomerol

Colour Red
Origin France, Bordeaux
Sub-district Pomerol & Lalande de Pomerol
Village Pomerol
ABV 14.9%

Excellent appellation signature, great balance, real depth of flavour, and while there are a ton of tannins here, they are smooth and integrated, concentrated but this is a serious wine, with serious ageing potential, and it's absolutely one to look out, damson and black cherry fruit abound, with cocoa bean and incense notes, a buy. 70% new oak. Drinking range: 2027 - 2044 Rating: 95 Jane Anson, www.janeanson.com (May 2023)

Smooth and rather forward, this is a clean wine with a juicy core, but it is not particularly complex or long. It is nice and safe, but not action-packed! Rating: 16 Matthew Jukes www.matthewjukes.com (May 2023)

Oak slightly dominates this sample but one perceives its structure and overall shape: taut tannins sustain soft, satin-like substance that has an opulent, warm feeling. This is clearly in line with the hedonistic style usually adopted by this estate. Rating: 90-92 La Revue du Vin de France (May 2023)

A firm and juicy red with lots of berries, chocolate, salt and lightly toasted wood. Some smoke. Soft tannins. Flavorful finish. Rating: 94-95 James Suckling, www.jamessuckling.com (May 2023)

Château Feytit Clinet

Jérémy Chasseuil took this property in hand in 2000, and the wines have got better with every passing vintage, truly showing the potential of this tiny 6.5 hectare property, set right in the heart of Pomerol (close to Clinet, Trotanoy and Latour à Pomerol). It's on gravelly-sandy and clay soils and planted with 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc, with vines that average over 30 years old. Despite the name, and the statement "mis en bouteille au chateau" on the label, there is no château, just a small well-equipped chai.
The grapes are hand-picked before fermentation in concrete and steel vats, where they spend four or five weeks before the wine is run off for the malolactic fermentation in barrel. The wine is aged for around 18 months is up to 80% new oak barrels.
