A little firm on the back of the palate, this tension gives this wine some work to soften and grow because the fruit is also tense on the nose and palate. I imagine it will even out given time. Rating: 16 Matthew Jukes www.matthewjukes.com (May 2023)

Well endowed with substance that has a rather creamy nature, this is coherent and avoids seeming soft despite its low acidity. It already shows expressively spicy flavours. Rating: 89-91 La Revue du Vin de France (May 2023)

From a 4.5-hectare vineyard on the plateau of Pomerol adjacent to Le Pin and one of La Fleur-Pétrus's parcels, Jean-Philippe Janoueix's 2022 La Croix St Georges is the first produced with the input of consultant Thomas Duclos. Wafting from the glass with aromas of cherries, minty berries, licorice and vine smoke, it's medium to full-bodied, fleshy and layered, with a seamless, complete profile and compelling purity of fruit. This has always been an immensely promising terroir, but now it really is an estate to watch. Rating: 92-94 William Kelley, The Wine Advocate (Apr 2023)

Château La Croix Saint Georges

A few rows from the iconic Le Pin sits Château La Croix Saint George, that once belonged to the Hospitaliers of Saint Jean de Jerusalem, hence the religious name. It was purchased by the Janoueix family in 1932. Until recent years there were no wine making facilities at La Croix Saint George, with the grapes being carted off to nearby Château La Croix for vinification. When Philippe Janoueix took the reins in 1999, he built proper facilities at La Croix Saint George and the wine is now made and matured on site. The 4.2ha of vineyard are 95% Merlot with the balance being Cabernet Franc, with an average age of 38 years. The wines are aged in 100% new wood, with the barrels being an unusual elongated cigar-shape to allow for more lees contact.
