Planted in 1940 - these are Remi’s oldest vines. Nose has spice - but you can sense the density too. Wonderful impression from the off. There is a 'peak inside' with this one, less tightly wound you can already sense the potential. Although masses of concentration - it gives something away - with deep charred citrus notes and wonderful grapefruit freshness. Some minerality too. Mouth-watering racy finish. L&S (Oct 2023)

Attractively fresh and bright aromas of hazelnut, pear and apple compote are trimmed in soft floral nuances. There is fine volume to the gorgeously textured and vibrant medium weight flavors that exude evident minerality on the slightly more complex and youthfully austere finale. This is really quite stylish and well-worth checking out. Drinking range: 2024 - 2028 Rating: 90 Allen Meadows, www.Burghound.com (Jun 2024)
The Domaine’s oldest vines, planted in 1940. Mid lemon yellow. A deliciously fine complex nose, layers of flowers and fruit, a little denser than the excellent Narvaux, this really kicks on combining ripe citrus, a little cream with a fresh undercurrent. The wine keeps building in the mouth. Drinking range: 2028 - 2036 Rating: ***** Jasper Morris - Inside Burgundy (Mar 2024)
Cask sample. That same stone-dust minerally impression as on the En Luraule. Creamy but very tart, not currently in balance. I am giving this the benefit of the doubt – that it will meld in the bottle. (JH) 13% Drinking range: 2027 - 2032 Rating: 16.5 Julia Harding MW, www.JancisRobinson.com (Feb 2024)
Domaine Rémi Jobard
Rémi has been making small qualitative changes ever since he took over here in 1996. The entire vineyard is cordon-pruned, so yields are naturally limited. There has been no use of fertiliser since 1994, and the vineyard is grassed-over to encourage the vine roots to go deep. The domaine has been certified organic from 2008. He says that the two most important things are the absence of weedkiller (and thus the necessity to plough, which cuts any surface roots and makes the vine go deeper) and not adding any fertiliser which again makes the roots go deeper to find nutrients.
Rémi has two vast presses, to enable him to press very slowly over six hours, and this has resulted in a big jump in finesse. The élevage now lasts nearly fifteen months, so as to allow the wines to develop slowly and to avoid fining. As a result these are wines which take a moment to show, but which reward the patient with complexity and great depth of flavour.
Rémi made a move from traditional barrels to foudres made of a mix of French, Austrian and Slavonian oak, constructed by Austrian cooper Stockinger, and having added a new one (or two) each year, there's barely a normal barrel left. He likes the way the wines develop in these large volumes, in which the 'oaking' effect is minimised.
