The Borie family's Technical Director, Christelle Spinner, explained that Lacoste-Borie is not a typical second wine, but in fact a distinctly separate wine from parcels planted on different soils, up behind the house and the beautiful parkland gardens. As such it now says on the label 'Vignes du Parc'. It is cultivated and vinified separately, and has its own distinct character. In 2026 it is a blend of 68% cabernet sauvignon, 24% merlot and 8% cabernet franc and delivers great precision and joy all at the same time. Deeply concentrated classic plum and blackcurrant fruit is delivered with suave energy and a whiff of smashed rocks, sleekly across the palate. Its not lightweight at all with wonderful weight of very fine tannin - but is remarkably approachable and charming already. A great wine to pop in the cellar and drink in the medium term, starting from about 5 years from now. Drinking range: 2031 - 2037 L&S (Apr 2026)

This is concentrated and medium- to full-bodied, with detailed, linear fruit complemented by precise, focused tannins. Savory finish with a cedar note. Fine tannins. 68% cabernet sauvignon, 24% merlot and 8% cabernet franc. Rating: 93-94 James Suckling, www.jamessuckling.com (Apr 2026)
The 2025 Lacoste-Borie is now labelled "Vignes du Parc", in reference to the fact that this comes from different soils and planting density, i.e. different to Grand Puy Lacoste. It has a vivacious bouquet with abundant redcurrant and strawberry scents, well defined, with just a light hint of bell pepper from the 8% Cabernet Franc. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, good tension, a seam of graphite that pins it down as Pauillac. Modest length. This has a pleasing rondeur that will make it approachable and charming, yet there is still fine substance. This would make a perfect introduction to the delights of Pauillac. Drinking range: 2030 - 2050 Rating: 90-92 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Jun 2026)
High Cabernet Sauvignon in the blend, and this has excellent vivacity and juice, blueberry, raspberry, cloves, slate, great lift and character. This is now entirely made from a separate part of the vineyard (marked by the new Vignes du Parc' on the label), and is the first vintage vinified in the new winery. 15% new oak for ageing. Drinking range: 2036 - 2055 Rating: 90 Jane Anson, www.janeanson.com (Apr 2026)
Château Grand Puy Lacoste
Pauillac Cinquième Cru 1855.
If there's an estate that can rival Lynch Bages for the crown of most over-performing 5th Growth, it would be Grand-Puy-Lacoste.
The "Grand Puy" is the low gravelly hill on which the vineyards sit. In 1750 a portion were sold to Pierre Ducasse and became, obviously, Château Grand Puy Ducasse while the rest, after a couple of name changes owing to inheritance by daughters, became Château Grand Puy Lacoste.
The Borie family bought into Grand Puy Lacoste in 1978 and began quite a renaissance for the property.
Just a few kilometres from the town of Pauillac, the vineyards of Chateau Grand-Puy-Lacoste total roughly 36 hectares (90 acres) with Cabernet Sauvignon making up 75% of the total plantings and the rest belonging to Merlot (20%) and Cabernet Franc (5%). Typical of the region, the vineyard consists of a deep gravel top soil on a limestone base.
Production is about 12,000 cases of wine in an average year. Fermentation takes place in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks, and then the wines are placed into oak barrels (50% new) for 18 months of aging.
