A mere 6 bottles to sum up 35 years is a bit of a challenge, but Charles Lea decided to give it a go.

Sancerre from Domaine Delaporte had to feature here – it was one of the more memorable tastings of our first buying trip together that Patrick and I first met Vincent.

Chablis will have to stand in for all white Burgundy here – Adhémar Boudin, who I had also met before the birth of Lea & Sandeman, was one of the pioneers of the appellation.

We also enjoyed many happy times in Bordeaux with Patrick’s friends and enjoyed the hospitality of the Bartons – or rather the Sartorius’s, as Lillian had married Michel Sartorius.

Italy had to be represented in this case, even though our first list was a little thin on Italy, the country rapidly became a major focus for us.

New Zealand got our attention early on, although it took a short moment to establish our direct relationship with Rippon, although I was selling the first examples from this vineyard in London, but in another life before Patrick and I really met.
