Brut Corteaura

Grapes Chardonnay, Pinot Noir
Colour White
Origin Italy, Lombardy
Sub-district Franciacorta
ABV 12.5%

Lovely biscuity, ripe fruit nose with citrus and yellow plum notes. On the palate the wine is generous with plenty of ripe fruit, touch creamy, waft of fresh bread, then a lovely mouthwatering acidity giving excellent length and balance. 100 per cent Chardonnay, so think Blanc de Blancs. L&S (Oct 2016)

Champagne-method fizz made from 90 per cent chardonnay and 10 per cent pinot noir with 36 months’ ageing on the yeast to develop flavours of lemon curd on brioche and fresh pears, finishing dry but creamy. Bellissimo. Susy Atkins(Mar 2019)

Stylistically speaking, Italy’s answer to champagne is not in the Veneto, home to prosecco, but in Franciacorta in Lombardy, where producers such as Corteaura make beautifully pure, finely-bubbled, bottle-fermented sparkling wines including this 90/10 chardonnay/pinot noir blend.David Williams, The Observer(Jun 2020)

This is 90% Chardonnay and 10% Pinot Noir. This has biscuit flavours blended with nettle notes in a very appetising way. It has a refreshingly tart finish. There is no lack of finesse. Rating: 17 Sarah Marsh MW, The Burgundy Briefing(May 2020)

Federico Fossati, the “Soul of Corte Aura”, is not yet 40 but already taking on a second career - with great results!. He left his homeland of the Veneto and a career in finance to set up in Lombardy. He saw his future in Adro, Franciacorta. Prime growing grounds for classic, high quality fruit, perfect for Franciacorta. The towns emblem is made up of three bunches of grapes - this is what they do there!

We are delighted to be working with the team here - it is so refreshing to have people making great Sparkling wine - who really understand that as it is not labelled Champagne - there is work to be done to raise the profile of Franciacorta and they know prices must be part of the allure - these represent seriously good value and we are so pleased to be listing the Brut, the Rosato and the fantastic Pas Dosé cuvée - perfect adverts for what is achievable here in this historic region - with passion, attention to detail and a long-term plan.

They own many of their own vineyards as well as buying in grapes from trusted growers and although still quite young are becoming seriously respected in the area.
