MAS AMIEL RESERVE
20 Ans d'âge Maury Domaine Mas Amiel
Grapes | Grenache, Macabeu, Carignan |
Origin | France, Vin Doux Naturel |
Village | Maury |
ABV | 18% |
Made in the classical Mas Amiel manner, 'muté sur grain', aged a year in 'bonbonnes' (prodigiously large glass jars which are left out in the sun and snow on the foothills of the Pyrenees) for a year, then aged in wood (large 'foudres') until bottling almost 20 years later. 90% Grenache, 5% each Carignan and Macabeu. Vaguely reminiscent of a tawny Port in a style all its own. Complex with great finesse and elegance - but no lightweight even after 20 years of ageing. Fine notes of dried fig, some baking spice and gorgeous soft licorice flashes. Finishes long and charming. Very expressive and a delightful with cheeses or and even partners well with the mercilessly difficult chocolate-heavy puddings. L&S (Sept 2022)

Domaine Mas Amiel
Mas Amiel is a vineyard just outside the village of Maury, North-East of Perpignan. Planted predominantly with Grenache, the estate is best know for the production of its Vin Doux Naturel, Maury, a sweet 'oxidised' wine which is aged outdoors in large glass demi-johns before being transferred into large oak barrels to age.
