Cuvée Cherie Demi-Sec

IN STOCK
Grapes Chardonnay
Colour White
Origin United Kingdom, England
ABV 12%

Cuvee Chérie is made from 100% Chardonnay grapes from the Nyetimber vineyards in West Sussex and Hampshire. Light golden hues and a slight silver undertone illuminate this delicately effervescent wine. Aromas of pure lemon, mineral and honey tones and a hint of tangerine fill the nose. The palate has a lively, sweet lemon start set off by a crisp acidity and a very clean, pure structure. L&S (Nov 2019)

*Case price discount: Mix any 12 bottles of wine (or 9 litre equivalent) or 6 bottles of Champagne, Spirits, Sweet Wine or Fortified (4.5 litres) to get the discounted 'case price' for each bottle.

The least pronounced nose in the range, but with definite almond pastry and yellow plum aromas. Palate of course has richness, with that almond pastry once more, then vanilla with a touch of Creme Anglais.L&S (Nov 2018)

The Cuvée Cherie Demi-Sec is a multi-vintage 100% Chardonnay from West Sussex and Hampshire containing 38g/L residual sugar. Readers in the US should note that this is exactly the same as the Demi-Sec, which previous bottles were labeled, without vineyard designation. It has a well-defined, brioche-tinged bouquet that demonstrates more reserve than expected, light almond scents mixing with honey and lemon thyme. The palate offers dried honey, tangerine, hints of pink grapefruit and a dab of sour lemon than neatly counterbalances the not-excessive sweetness on the finish. Fine. Drinking range: 2020 - 2030 Rating: 89 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Jul 2020)

Nyetimber

In 1988, as Lea & Sandeman was founded, the vines were being planted here in West Sussex. Few vineyards in England are better placed to exploit the similarity between the soils of the South Downs and those of the Champagne region in France than Nyetimber in West Sussex. But it took a couple from Chicago - Stuart and Sandy Moss - to bring the dream to life when they bought Nyetimber Manor in 1986. Vineyards followed from 1988 onwards, and the first vintage released was the 1992.

Nyetimber is now owned by Eric Heerema who already owned a vineyard in West Sussex when he bought Nyetimber in 2006 and had identified more land for planting. All were amalgamated into Nyetimber which now comprises some 350 acres, all planted to Chardonnay and the Pinots Noir and Meunier, making it at the time the biggest vineyard in England, and the first to use only these three Champagne varieties

Eric's greatest act was probably the hiring of married couple Cherie Spriggs and Brad Greatrex in 2007, who are both winemakers, with Cherie taking the 'head winemaker' role. The couple, who had tasted a bottle given to them by Cherie's parents and recognised the potential, have, as the Nytimber website puts it 'been integral to building Nyetimber into a sparkling wine producer that rivals the best in the world'.
