NUITS SAINT GEORGES

2012 1er Cru Chaignots Domaine Faiveley

EN PRIMEUR

There's class here - real aristo fruit and a mouthfilling rich fulness which almost has one looking for the structure:- hedonistic Nuits! Saline touch on the finish.L&S (Nov 2013)

Bright medium red. Highly nuanced nose offers aromas of cherry, sandalwood, minerals, blood orange and flowers, plus a hint of reduction that quickly dissipated. At once silky and sappy, with tangy red fruit and licorice flavors framed and extended by underlying minerality. Sweet, generous and long on the ripely tannic finish. A lovely showing, but there's more ahead for patient collectors. Drinking range: 2019 - 2027 Rating: 92 Stephen Tanzer, www.vinousmedia.com (Mar 2015)

Sourced from a very old vineyard with a high percentage of millerands (seedless berries) in 2012, this is a Nuits that is situated close to the commune’s northern border with Vosne. It’s a very smart wine, all plums and black cherry fruit, sappy acidity, subtle, aromatic oak and a hint of Asian spices. 2016-27 Rating: 94 Tim Atkin MW, www.timatkin.com (Jan 2014)

There is a lush and distinctly spicy character to the solidly dense medium-bodied flavors that are shaped by phenolically mature tannins on the mildly austere finish that displays fine depth and very good length. Solid quality here. 2020+ Rating: 89-91 Allen Meadows, www.Burghound.com (Jan 2014)

Bright medium red. Musky black cherry and blackberry aromas are complicated by an exotic suggestion of white fruits. Juicy, precise and youthfully imploded, offering pretty flavors of raspberry, flowers and spices. Not an opulent style but vibrant and firmly built. Rating: 90-93 Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar (Jan 2014)

The nose has the richness of ripe fruit and the palate is deep rich with a strong black fruited influence. There is enough freshness to balance but it fills out towards the back with sweet fruit and finish has power and black fruited richness. 2015-20 Rating: 93 Derek Smedley MW, www.dereksmedleymw.co.uk (Dec 2013)

25% entire bunch as it is an older vineyard. Directly above the Vignerondes. Aromatic aroma, scented and high toned. This is really quite tannic too, plenty of extraction; dense and rich, not exactly an elegant Chaignots, although, that said, it does have some floral components and a slight aromatic finish, maybe from the stems. It is lighter bodied, more sophisticated and less robust than the vignes rondes. From 2018. Rating: 18 Sarah Marsh MW, The Burgundy Briefing (Dec 2013)

The Faiveley family are the largest vineyard owners in Burgundy, owning around 120ha, spread across the Côtes de Nuits, Beaune and Chalonnaise and encompassing everything from generic Bourgogne up to the grandest of Grand Crus. Their holdings supply the grapes for 5 out of every 6 bottles made by Faiveley, the balance being bought in from carefully selected contract growers.

STORAGE OPTIONS:

Wines bought en primeur are scheduled to arrive in the UK over the course of the next eighteen months. If you do not wish to take home delivery, you may wish to consider where you would like the wines shipped on arrival in the UK. Lea & Sandeman offers duty paid and in bond storage through a dedicated storage company called Elephant Storage. For more details on the terms and fees associated with storage please go to our Storage Homepage or contact our primeurs team for more information.

While helpful, we do not require a firm commitment on delivery destination to process your primeur order at this stage. Our team will be in contact with you when your wines arrive in the UK to confirm the necessary delivery details.
