CHABLIS

2017 1er Cru Troësmes Domaine Denis Pommier

Grapes Chardonnay
Colour White
Origin France, Burgundy
Other Organic
District Chablis
Classification 1er Cru
Vineyard Troësmes

Brighter still than the Croix aux Moines - this has lovely mineral push and lots of citrus ping. Intense. More zest and pith - but joyously fresh and finishes with a nicely saline line. A tightish finish - nice tension and poise here. L&S (Oct 2018)

(this used to be labeled as Beauroy). This possesses an interesting nose that is at once exotic with its notes of white peach, poached pear and lychee nut while displaying pretty good Chablis typicity. Once again there is fine volume and mid-palate density to the caressing full-bodied flavors that possess a beguiling texture that carries over to the sneaky long finish. This is really quite good and more tension-filled than it usually is. Drinking range: 2025 - Rating: 90 Allen Meadows, www.Burghound.com(Jan 2020)

Exciting, juicy and green fruited. Yes! This is really good wine! Drinking range: 2020 - 2030 Rating: 16.5+ Jancis Robinson OBE MW - www.JancisRobinson.com(Jan 2019)

(this used to be labeled as Beauroy). Here there is a pungent petrol character to the dried yellow-fleshed fruit aromas that are once again overtly exotic. The exceptionally rich flavors possess a luscious and equally caressing mouth feel while exhibiting slightly better energy on the clean and moderately dry finale. Note that this should drink well young but also reward a few years of cellaring. 2021+ Rating: 89 Allen Meadows, www.Burghound.com(Dec 2018)

Domaine Denis Pommier

Founded when the Pommiers inherited 2 hectares of vines in 1990. Isabelle and Denis bottled their first wine in 1994 and now have 18 hectares of vineyards, which are run according to biodynamic principles (which have sadly cost them dearly in terms of lost crop in 2016 and 2017).

The Petit Chablis is a model of brisk freshness - made entirely in stainless steel - while the Premier Crus benefit from a small amount of barrel-fermentation and élevage. The Troësmes (a small parcel within the larger premier cru 'Beauroy' which the Pommiers think deserves to be identified by its correct name) is relatively rounder, while the Côte de Léchet is the one for fans of the slatier, crystalline side of minerality. Keep either of the premiers crus four to six years.
