The 2017 Saint-Aubin Les Frionnes 1er Cru has a Chablis-like nose with sea spray and shucked oyster shells. There is real intensity here. This Frionnes demonstrates impressive tension and length, unashamedly classic in style with a sapid finish, this has a lot of pleasure to give. Drinking range: 2022 - 2040 Rating: 92 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Dec 2020)

Smoky white-fleshed fruit aromas are cut with lemongrass, wet stone and soft spice wisps. There is better volume to the intense, focused and delicious medium-bodied flavors that exude evident minerality on the impressively complex and lingering finish. This is very good and worth your consideration. Drinking range: 2024 - Rating: 90-93 Allen Meadows, www.Burghound.com (Jun 2019)

The 2017 Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Les Frionnes unfurls with notes of sweet citrus, grapefruit pith and crushed chalk, followed by a medium-bodied, tangy and mineral palate with a chalky, mouthwatering finish. Vibrant and focused, it will be well worth seeking out. Rating: 90-92 William Kelley, The Wine Advocate (Jan 2019)

Strong orangey citrus aroma. Creamy flavour balancing the very crisp acidity. Bright and zesty, for acid lovers. Drinking range: 2020 - 2025 Rating: 16.5 Julia Harding MW, www.JancisRobinson.com (Jan 2019)

The 2017 Saint-Aubin Les Frionnes 1er Cru comes from vines planted as far back as 1935. It has a captivating mineral driven bouquet with touches of sea spray and oyster shell joining the malic fruit. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity, taut and focused with a delicate but quite persistent finish that leaves a saline residue. This is very promising. Drinking range: 2021 - 2032 Rating: 90-92 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Jan 2019)

Rather more exotic aromatics on the nose and on the front of the palate, but it is has vibrancy and cool minerality on the finish... there is some tension at the end.Sarah Marsh MW, The Burgundy Briefing (Dec 2018)

Olivier Lamy has built on the solid foundations his father Hubert prepared with twenty years and more of work in the vineyards. Today the Domaine has 18.5 hectares of vines - 80% are Chardonnay and 20% Pinot Noir. The vines are in several appellations - Saint-Aubin, Puligny-Montrachet, Chassagne-Montrachet and Santenay, as well as the excellent Bourgogne Blanc. The reputation of the domaine is now made, but the Saint Aubins, both red and white, remain some of the bargains of Côte d'Or, and challenge the supposed superiority of the grander village names on a regular basis, both in terms of young and mature wines.

Olivier's wine-making style and preference is to emphasise the fresh and the mineral side of his wines, and there is very little new wood in this cellar, with many wines with no new wood at all, and that is with the wines in 600 litre demi-muids rather that the classic Burgundy (225 litre) fût. Certainly Oliver's whites do have an arrow-like purity and intensity, and seem to age completely straight and true.

The reds are worth more than a casual mention too. Olivier has been getting some consultation help from Sylvain Pataille, and the wines have energy and bounce along with the supple tannins and ripeness.
