Old vines on the slope, thin soil, deep roots, 'well-ventilated' - there's always a flow of air here. This is always the darkest colour of their wines and this year is no exception. So fat and round and rich. Lots of intensity. A sensational cuvée this year, and very complete as a wine. L&S (Nov 2019)

Subtle but not invisible wood frames the violet, spice and earth-suffused cassis and plum-scented nose. The velvety and exceptionally rich flavors possess a different and more seductive texture than usual if perhaps a bit less minerality, all wrapped in a firm, serious and youthfully austere finish. Patience required but this is very promising. Drinking range: 2030 - Rating: 90-93 Allen Meadows, www.Burghound.com(Jan 2020)
The 2018 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Chaignots is brilliant, wafting from the glass with aromas of creamy dark fruit—cassis, cherry, plum—mingled with notions of exotic spices, smoked duck, orange rind and wilted rose petals. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, deep and multidimensional, its concentrated core of fruit framed by velvety tannins and lively acids, concluding with a long and sapid finish. My personal cellar contains more of this particular cuvée than any other wine from the Côte de Nuits, and every time I taste the latest vintage, reflecting on that brings me immense satisfaction. Rating: 93-95 William Kelley, The Wine Advocate(Jan 2020)
The 2018 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Chaignots 1er Cru comes from a 1.2-hectare parcel and it is matured in 45–50% new oak. Deep in color, it has an intense, pure bouquet of blood-orange-infused red fruit that immediately engages the olfactory senses. The palate is silky-smooth on the entry, with ripe, juicy tannins, layers of red berry fruit laced with orange peel, and a tang of marmalade, leading to a very harmonious and quite powerful finish. Drinking range: 2022 - 2038 Rating: 92-94 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com(Jan 2020)
Domaine Georges Mugneret-Gibourg
Domaine Mugneret-Gibourg was founded in 1933 on the marriage of Jeanne Gibourg and André Mugneret. Holdings then consisted of Bourgogne, village Nuits, village Vosne and Echezeaux. Their son Georges, an opthalmologist by day, added to the vineyards, but his acquisitions (Nuits 1ers Crus Vignes Rondes and Chaignots, Chambolle 1er Cru Feusselottes, and Grands Crus Clos Vougeot and Ruchottes Chambertin) were kept separate as Domaine Georges Mugneret. On Georges' death in 1988, his widow Jacqueline and daughter Marie-Christine took over. Marie-Andrée, the younger daughter joined them a little later having completed her studies as an oenologist. In 2009 the two domaine names were put together to become Domaine Georges Mugneret-Gibourg, ending the prior confusion of labels. The sisters have proved more than safe hands as far as the winemaking is concerned, and these are top-flight Burgundies with that elusive balance of enough concentration allied with delicacy of expression and the capability to age well. All the vineyard management has been brought in-house (the domaine previously relied on two métayeurs for part of the vineyard) and the quality has reached new heights, its wines some of the most sought-after in the Côte de Nuits.
