40% Whole Cluster - not much punching down this year as the colour and tannins needed little encouragement. Always a favourite of ours - this does not disappoint at all in 2019! This is superb. It's all here, a good level of fruit. Nicely intense and serious. Not too ripe - but nice sweet bits and then a super mineral backbone. Some power and shoulders too. ’Il ya du vin!' remarks Veronique Drouhin as we taste together and she's spot on. This has some impressive power. This 2019 needs time, its not completely charming yet, but so full of promise - it will be epic. A sophisticated and wonderful wine in the making. The quality is no surprise really when you remember this vineyard sits just above Richebourg and next door to Cros Parentoux.

This is very beautiful, but it’s not at all loud, rather it is quiet and delicate and slowly creeps up on you. Then, suddenly, the backbone of a mighty creature begins to emerge from the deep. Super fine tannins and wonderful mineral freshness at the very precise finish. From biodynamically grown grapes. Drinkable now, but best from 2023. The 2019 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Petits Monts unwinds in the glass with aromas of raspberries, bolos orange, spices, potpourri and loamy soil. Medium to full-bodied, lively and mineral, it's deep and concentrated, with the most reserved profile of any premier cru in the range, concluding with a long and vibrant finish. The 2019 Vosne-Romanée Les Petits Monts 1er Cru, which until now I did not realize is owned by Véronique Drouhin-Boss personally, includes 40% whole cluster. It has a wonderful bouquet of violet-infused red plum and cranberry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins and a fine bead of acidity. Full of tension and energy with good grip toward the sensual finish. Excellent. Drinking range: 2024 - 2045 Rating: 93-95 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Dec 2020)

Above Richebourg and between Cros Parantoux and Reignots. Final blend in tank, to be bottled by mid February 2021. Smudgy, deepish blueish crimson. The merest whiff of volatile acidity? Rather dry on the end. One of the most youthful wines in this Drouhin line-up. Still limbering up… 40% whole bunch apparently and a bit awkward at the moment. 40% whole bunch vinification. Fine deep mid purple, deep red fruit with some chocolate notes, spices too, a huge weight of fruit and a very exuberant finish. Joseph Drouhin, founded in 1880 and still family owned, are one of the most well-respected names in Burgundy, especially through their flagship wine, the iconic Clos des Mouches.

A huge part of the Drouhin production comes from their own domaine fruit (78 hectares), and much of the rest comes from contracts such as that with the Marquis de Laguiche, who shook hands with the grandfather of the current generation, agreeing to let him manage his vineyards which included an important part of Le Montrachet; this collaboration endures. Today, the fourth generation is at the helm

Small refinements continue to be made here. The presses have been changed - a reversion to basket pressing for the reds, and for whites the presses are open - along with a number of other growers they are following the trend to think that slight oxidation of the juice before fermentation is not a problem and may add complexity as well as avoiding later problems of premature oxidation in bottle.

For the reds there has been the introduction of selective whole-bunch fermentation in the Côte de Nuits wines. The house style remains one that 'emphasises the natural elegance of great Burgundies' as they describe it. The domaine is all cultivated with an organic and biodynamic approach.

PRICING: All prices are quoted IN BOND ex-VAT, by the case size stated. Please double check that the desired case size does match what is being offered as wines are variously listed in threes, sixes, dozens, halves and larger formats.

DELIVERY - TIMING: This is a primeur offer so the wines are not yet physically available for delivery. They will be shipped to the UK over the next eighteen months. Generally wines are shipped to your nominated location once the whole order has landed in our London City Bond account. If you require wines to be delivered by a certain date, please advise us at the time of ordering.

DELIVERY - FEES: In bond delivery to an Elephant Storage account (for more information see 'Storage Options' opposite) is free of charge. Transfer of wines to any third party bond (i.e. not Elephant Storage) will incur an administration charge of £16.50 + VAT for all orders under £1,000. If you require wines duty paid, please indicate this in your Wishlist order form. A duty & VAT invoice will be raised once all the wines on your order are available for shipment. Once the relevant duty & VAT has been settled, we will ship the wines to your nominated address as per our normal duty paid Delivery Terms.

PAYMENT: All orders will be invoiced for immediate payment by cheque, cash, debit card or cleared funds to our account. We regret that we cannot accept credit cards for primeur orders. We reserve the right to apply a dunning charge of 2% per month on invoices unpaid after 30 days.
