2020 1er Cru Les Charmes Domaine Faiveley

Though showing less color than most of the other 2020 reds, this certainly wasn't wanting in character. Starting with strawberry compote and raspberry preserves with a light sprinkle of sweet spice, the nose dazzles. Rose petals add to the palate, where well-placed acidity stands beside distinguished, streamlined tannins to form a nice, age-worthy structure. Jérôme Flous says that Bernard Hervet, former CEO of Domaine Faiveley, always pointed out how well this wine aged and that he was absolutely right. Drinking range: 2022 - 2035 Rating: 94 Christy Canterbury MW - (Feb 2022)

The 2020 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Charmes is perfumed and elegant, soaring from the glass with scents of roses, peonies, orange rind and sweet red berries. Medium to full-bodied, velvety and sensual, with melting tannins, succulent acids and a saline finish, it's one of the most ethereal wines in the range. Rating: 92-94 William Kelley, The Wine Advocate (Jan 2022)

Classic ruby color. Bright and fresh aromas of red pinot fruit are liberally laced with plenty of floral and spice wisps. The delicious, rich and seductively textured medium-bodied flavors possess an opulent mid-palate that contrasts somewhat with the firm, clean, dry, youthfully austere and mildly warm finale. Drinking range: 2030 - Rating: 90-93 Allen Meadows, (Jan 2022)

Cask sample. Mid to light crimson. Initial oaky sweetness, then scented red fruit. Quite firm extraction seems to have given a little bitterness on the finish, though the tannins are fine-grained and smooth. A little tart on the finish, though no lack of freshness. Drinking range: 2024 - 2030 Rating: 16 Julia Harding MW, (Jan 2022)

A slightly less intense but pretty purple, some whole bunches here. They also stretch out the fruit across the palate beautifully. This is a very deft Chambolle with plenty of nuance, extremely floral, and with a graceful structure. Tasted: November 2021 Rating: 93-95 Jasper Morris - Inside Burgundy  (Jan 2022)

The Faiveley family are the largest vineyard owners in Burgundy, owning around 120ha, spread across the Côtes de Nuits, Beaune and Chalonnaise and encompassing everything from generic Bourgogne up to the grandest of Grand Crus. Their holdings supply the grapes for 5 out of every 6 bottles made by Faiveley, the balance being bought in from carefully selected contract growers.

Wines bought en primeur are scheduled to arrive in the UK over the course of the next eighteen months. If you do not wish to take home delivery, you may wish to consider where you would like the wines shipped on arrival in the UK. Lea & Sandeman offers duty paid and in bond storage through a dedicated storage company called Elephant Storage. For more details on the terms and fees associated with storage please go to our Storage Homepage or contact our primeurs team for more information.

While helpful, we do not require a firm commitment on delivery destination to process your primeur order at this stage. Our team will be in contact with you when your wines arrive in the UK to confirm the necessary delivery details.

OFFER: All wines are offered subject to availability and final confirmation.

PRICING: All prices are quoted IN BOND ex-VAT, by the case size stated. Please double check that the desired case size does match what is being offered as wines are variously listed in threes, sixes, dozens, halves and larger formats.

DELIVERY - TIMING: This is a primeur offer so the wines are not yet physically available for delivery. They will be shipped to the UK over the next eighteen months. Generally, wines are shipped to your nominated location once the whole order has landed in our London City Bond account. If you require wines to be delivered by a certain date, please advise us at the time of ordering. We do not anticipate any problems but please be aware that delays to delivery may occur should Britain's possible departure from the European Union result in additional border customs checks or other regulatory requirements. Any additional or unforeseen duties, tariffs, charges or other financial liabilities relating to 'Brexit' must be due to the customer and will be added to orders as required.

DELIVERY - FEES: In bond delivery to an Elephant Storage account (for more information see 'Storage Options' opposite) is free of charge. Transfer of wines to any third-party bond (i.e. not Elephant Storage) will incur an administration charge of £16.50 + VAT for all orders under £1,000. Please indicate if you would like the wine duty paid and a duty & VAT invoice will be raised once all the wines on your order are available for shipment. Once the relevant duty & VAT has been settled, we will ship the wines to your nominated address as per our normal duty paid Delivery Terms.

PAYMENT: All orders will be invoiced for immediate payment by cheque, cash, debit card or cleared funds to our account. We regret that we cannot accept credit cards for primeur orders. We reserve the right to apply a dunning charge of 2% per month on invoices unpaid after 30 days.
