The heady, aromatic nose displays a characteristic plentitude of rich plump fruit, ripe strawberry and the exotic notes of rockrose, spice, clove and eucalyptus, signatures of Quinta da Roêda from where the blend heralds. An avalanche of exuberant fruit then coats the palate with discreet and well poised tannins. An elegant and aromatic Vintage Port, perfectly poised with opulence and restraint.Winemaker's notes (May 2026)

We could not have asked for better growth conditions, that were typically warm throughout the summer followed by a cooler harvest period for long fermentations. This created beautiful Fonseca Vintage ports that were all made in the traditional granite lagares and with foot treading. The wines have that incredible freshness of fruit and dimension that Fonseca is famous for.Winemaker's notes (May 2026)

Quinta dos Malvedos accounts for around three quarters of the blend, bringing its hallmark depth of dark plum fruit and layered structure, while the inclusion of some Vinha Velha fruit this year — with no separate bottling from the ancient vines — adds an extra dimension of complexity and detail.Touriga Franca plays a particularly important role in the blend, contributing generous aromatic fruit, while Touriga Nacional brings freshness, lift and a subtle citrus edge. Intriguingly, the nose at first feels almost more like an aromatic red wine than a young Vintage Port, with vibrant purple fruit, Mediterranean herbs and hedgerow notes unfolding with remarkable clarity. The palate follows with a finer, more delicate feel than expected, showing excellent freshness and purity from the outset. The wine gradually builds in power and weight, yet always remains sleek, poised and gently steely in structure. Floral notes rise through the finish, while a persistent citrus freshness gives the wine energy and real drinkability despite its depth.L&S (May 2026)

First released in 2011, Stone Terraces continues to offer one of the most distinctive and finely detailed expressions of Vintage Port. The nose carries an almost claret-like character in its composure and restraint, combining subtlety with unmistakable power. Intense purple fruit sits at the core, recalling crushed summer berries and warm dark fruit compote, layered with gentle herbal nuances that bring freshness and lift. On the palate, the wine is beautifully controlled and seamlessly integrated, balancing muscular intensity with remarkable precision. There is depth and concentration here, but also calmness and sophistication - everything feels perfectly assembled and entirely complete. Bold yet poised, this is a profoundly impressive Stone Terraces with both immediate allure and enormous potential.L&S (May 2026)

All thr fruit comes from a tiny parcel of old, ungrafted vines, Nacional is unique in the Douro - a field blend of around 30 different co-planted varieties that gives the wine its unmistakable identity. The grapes are all entirely foot-trodden in the Quinta’s traditional stone lagares. Production is minute, with only around 170 cases made, released exclusively in individual bottles. Winemaker Carlos Agrellos speaks of the wine’s tannic structure as something impossible to replicate elsewhere — a texture and rhythm entirely its own. Aromatically, the 2024 is extraordinary. Fresh citrus-edged 'bounce' jumps from the glass, layered with deeply perfumed floral notes of lilac and violet. On the palate, the wine feels almost electric in its energy, combining immense power with an astonishing sense of delicacy and transparency. Bright blue fruit runs through the core, while the structure remains incredibly fine, measured and poised. There is intensity here, but never heaviness — instead, the wine seems to glide across the palate with an almost spectral elegance that is both fascinating and totally delicious. Seriously impressive!L&S (May 2026)

Even so, the 2024 release feels particularly special - a wine of striking individuality and finesse. The aromatics are captivating from the outset, leaning less on sheer fruit weight and more on extraordinary floral complexity and freshness. Notes of lilac and violet unfurl alongside an intense blood orange character that gives the wine an almost electric citrus energy. There is also a fascinating bittersweet note reminiscent of Chinotto, adding another layer of intrigue and sophistication. All the fruit is crushed in traditional stone lagares, half foot-trodden and half mechanically trodden. Winemaker Carlos Agrellos worked with ten separate 'lots' this year from the vineyard, each bringing complementary elements to the final blend and allowing for exceptional detail and balance. The result is a Vintage Port of remarkable purity, composure and aromatic lift — powerful yet incredibly refined. Representing just 7.6% of Noval’s total Port production, this is a really impressive release.L&S (May 2026)

2024 SMITH WOODHOUSE

It's a selection from the Quinta da Madalena vineyards in the Rio Torto Valley and is a blend of 40% Touriga Franca and 30% each Touriga Nacional and an old vines field blend. The grapes are 100% handpicked. Fermentation takes place with natural (wild) yeast between 26 degrees Celsius and 31 degrees Celsius. Once the must reaches the desired degree of sweetness (usually within 48 hours), fortification takes place with the addition of grape spirit at 77% alcohol by volume. It comes in at 20% alcohol, with a pH of 3.65 and 101 grams of acidity. This is probably one of the most accessible of the 2024s; it's floral and herbal, sweeter than the Dow's, charming and lovely. Softer, easier and approachable, you can drink it earlier. It matured in large oak vessels for 18 months and then was bottled. It's more affordable too. 15,240 bottles produced.
