Rather an inconclusive tasting note, Suduiraut seemed to have smokey Sauvignon to the fore. Very rich, very closed, very intense, but somehow not much fun. Rating: 91? L&S (Apr 2018)

Light and refreshing rather than rich and sumptuous, yet the lightness of touch works rather well. There’s some tropical fruit and new oak on the palate, but it’s the lemony acidity and the acacia honey that dominate the finish. Sweeter than many at 145 grams of sugar, but still comparatively light. 5+ years. Rating: 94 Tim Atkin MW, www.timatkin.com
The sample tasted came from the 3rd and 4th pickings. The first two tries went into the second wine, the fifth and final tri was affected by rain and it was sold off. The grand vin is about 40% of production. Alcohol 13.8%, residual sugar 145 g/l. A beautiful, captivating nose here, loaded with botrytis creaminess. The fruit profile is exotic and beautiful, showing a wonderfully complex array of exotic fruits but also a brilliant freshness, with citrus tones lifting the nose. Little notes of tangerine here too. Polished, very fat with a lovely concentration, but also finesse and lift through to the end of the palate. Lovely acidity, and definite botrytis texture here. The Chateau Suduiraut has a comparatively rich, botrytized bouquet with dried honey, pineapple and a touch of Seville orange marmalade, with exquisite definition and focus. The palate is well-balanced, with a viscous texture and a good level of botrytis, demonstrating fine minerality and tautness. Dried mango, quince and spice all interlace the focused finish, which is long in the mouth. Tasted against its peers, this has a higher level of intensity and focus. Tasted blind 4 Apr: Rich and subtle on the nose; it already feels heavy in the glass. Very big and bold. Spicy. One of the sweetest and it seems to be interesting too! Very rich for a 2010. Tasted 7 Apr: Mid pale gold. Broad and rich and fresh but with very ripe pear-juice notes. There is real weight here. Much less citrus peel than most other 2010 Sauternes. Real race. Super nose with some exotic pineapple/mango/passion fruit undertones mixed with Vouvray-like blossom-tree and quince jelly, enormous body, but incredible purity and crystal-like transparency, great length, a masterpiece! Drink 2020-2070. Rating: *****19 Michel Bettane, decanter.com
Sauternes Premier Cru 1855 The de Suduiraut family lived on their estate in Preignac at least as far back as 1580. In the later years of the 17th Century, a dispute with the local Governor led to the château being flattened. In response, Comte Blaise de Suduiraut rebuilt in lavish manner, with gardens laid out by King Louis XIV's designer. Since the de Suduiraut's time there have been many owners, but today it is in the very capable hands of AXA Millésimes. The 92ha of vineyard are planted with 90% Semillon and 10% Sauvignon Blanc. There is a second wine, which takes its name from a neighbouring estate that was absorbed into Suduiraut in 1831, and is called Castelnau de Suduiraut.
