A blend of 78% Merlot and 22% Cabernet Franc, the Beauséjour Duffau Lagarosse has a powerful bouquet with lifted red fruits with floral notes underpinned by noticeable creamy new oak. It retains fine definition and is not overpowering. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, a very fine structure and great symmetry. This is an excellent Saint Emilion for the vintage that has a lovely caressing finish that belies its backbone. Superb. Rating: 92-94 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Apr 2012)

78% Merlot, 22% Cabernet Franc. Inky cherry. Gorgeously ripe but fresh damsons as well as fresher small dark berries. So perfumed even though there is some chocolatey oak in there too. Bright, deep and long but full of life and intensity with no excess of weight or ripeness and excellent freshness all the way along. Open and inviting, with almost gushy blueberry, fig and boysenberry fruit at first. But then there's lively acidity stitching the finish together, with bouncy spice and anise notes and a streak of graphite that should emerge more through the élevage.
