Aromatically very dense. Rich full-flavoured attack. White honey, white flowers. Very sweet, very pure, developing waxy apricot and fresh tropical fruit and citrus. Very sweet, intense and mouthwatering. An absolute stand-out for defined character and balance in this vintage. Rating: 92+ L&S (Apr 2012)

The 2011 Doisy-Védrines had a lovely bouquet with peach skin, Mirabelle and orange blossom aromas that gain intensity in the glass. The palate is well balanced with a viscous opening, powerful with a lot of botrytis, though here, I am seeking more acidity and tension on the finish. Very fine, but might it pall after a few sips? Tasted blind at the annual 10-Year-On tasting. Drinking range: 2022 - 2040 Rating: 91 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Apr 2022)

Charming apricot nose which is not sumptuous but elegant. Sweet but lean, with silky, textured stone fruits and pineapple. Not a heavyweight but lively and balanced, with a candied finish. (Highly recommended, Sauternes & Barsac) Drinking range: 2017 - 2030 Rating: 90 Decanter Magazine (Nov 2015)

Bright golden straw-yellow. Pear, peach, mango and flowers on the enticing, lively nose. Intensely flavored, fresh and sweet, offering lovely penetration and definition to the ripe white stone fruit, lime oil and floral flavors. Really stains the palate while retaining a light touch on the finish, which hints at soil and coconut. This strikes me as more vibrant and less opulent than some past vintages of this wine, which I had found somewhat heavy. Rating: 92 Ian d'Agata - Stephen Tanzer website (Jul 2014)

Château Doisy Védrines

Barsac Deuxième cru 1855 As one might expect, there was originally one Doisy estate. Sometime in the earlier 19th Century, it was divided into three parts - two smaller parts were sold to the Dubroca brothers and Jean-Jacques Emmanuel Daëne becoming the rarely encountered Château Doisy-Dubroca and Château Doisy-Daëne respectively, whilst the larger proportion became Château Doisy-Védrines. In 1851, it was purchased by the Boireau family who's descendents the, Castéja family, own Doisy-Védrines to this day. Around 30ha of vineyard are planted with 85% Semillon and 15% Sauvignon Blanc. Fermentation is in stainless-steel before and 18 month aging period in oak, of which 70% is new. Doisy-Védrines is a richer rounder style than Doisy-Daëne. Interestingly, although entitled to the Barsac appellation, the wines are always labelled as Sauternes.
