|Sub-district||Brunello di Montalcino|
The 2012 'straight Brunello' was a runaway success for Marcello winning fabulous international plaudits - and this Riserva is a gem. In the same mould, deep, richly weighted with dark cherry fruit and lovely plum skin. Chock full of spice, cocoa and cigar box toast notes too. Intense, full on and loaded with promise. This will need time - but will be worth the wait. Great value Riserva which will be a joy to open in 7 to 10 years time. L&S (Feb 2018)

Saturated flavors of cherry and plum mesh nicely with the dense tannins in this intense, energetic red. Balanced, if a bit angular now, with the component parts needing time to integrate. Finishes with a firm grip and lingering tobacco and mineral accents. Drinking range: 2022 - 2038 Rating: 96-96 Bruce Sanderson, The Wine Spectator (Apr 2018)
Deep ruby. Very deep aromas of red plum, red berries, sweet spices and crushed stone are complicated by mint and cinnamon on the captivating nose. Juicy and extremely intense, with a crystallised quality to its sharply delineated fruit and spice flavors, this huge, structured wine is bursting at the seams with ripe fruit and flesh. A luscious mouthful of Brunello that finishes long with polished tannins and noteworthy energy, not to mention subtle building perfume. Drinking range: 2023 - 2034 Rating: 95-95 Ian d'Agata, www.vinousmedia.com (Apr 2018)
The 2012 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Vigna Fontelontano is a bit too ripe and jammy for my tastes. You get a powerful whiff of blackberry preserves with raspberry or strawberry marmalade. This was a hot vintage, and this wine flaunts that vintage sunshine and heat. There is a touch of fruity sweetness on the close with flavors of prune, raisin and dried fig backed by backing spice and cinnamon. It drinks well now just out the gate and doesn't need much cellar ageing. Drinking range: 2019 - 2027 Monica Larner, The Wine Advocate (www.robertparker.com) (Feb 2018)
This is a tiny seven hectare estate in San Angelo in Colle, on the southern side of the hill of Montalcino, nestling above the famous and rather larger Col d'Orcia vineyards (145 hectares). Marcello Bucci, who studied oenology under Signora Fuligni (Roberto Fuligni's aunt), is making wonderfully good wines which have rapidly increased both in quality and international recognition. A new winery finished in time for the harvest in 2015 has given Marcello greater control and flexibility with the wine-making - this is an estate going from strength to strength The wines from these vineyards are fuller and riper, though perhaps marginally less fine than, say, Fuligni's, but what they lack in finesse is more than compensated for in the pricing, making Collemattoni one of the best value wines of the region.
