77% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Merlot. This wine opened the low-key but very impressive tasting at Chateau Calon Segur. Pretty red-fruited nose, quite bright and floral. Palate more serious lovely power and push at core. This is poised and classy stuff. Beautiful balance, recommended. Rating: 88 L&S (May 2013)

Black fruits dominate the nose lots of rich flavours. The palate has depth black plum and cassis all supported by firm tannins. A blend of 67% Cabernet Sauvignon and 33% Merlot, the Capbern Gasqueton has a fragrant nose with nicely controlled red berry fruit and nicely integrated oak. It becomes more floral with aeration in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied, perhaps a little rustic on the spicy opening. The tannins are forward and firm with a bold slightly peppery finish. It does not quite have the finesse of the 2010 but it should have plenty of character. Rating: 87-89 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (May 2013)
