Very dense, rich nose. Oaky, but - a sweetness of Cabernet Franc, perfectly ripe, a sweetness of Merlot. An intense, freshly-baked, patisserie concentration of ripe blackberry, cherry pie. Lively and pure and long. Gorgeous. It is as once a real 'bomb' but all in finesse. Such power but such elegance. Rating: 95 L&S (Apr 2013)

*Case price discount: Mix any 12 bottles (or 9l equivalent) of wine or 6 bottles of Champagne, Spirits, Sweet Wine or Fortified to get the 'case price' for each bottle.

The carefully-crafted precision of the fruits is clear right from the first nose. A serious, subdued L'Eglise Clinet at 10 years old, putting a marker down in terms of carefully-crafted fruits and fine-boned tannins. Enjoyable, tertiary notes of truffles and earth are just beginning to surface. 80% new oak. Rating: 96 Jane Anson, www.janeanson.com (Mar 2022)

Tasted blind. This wine is a sophisticated lawyer somehow. Lots of layers and urbanity. Source of great reward. Mid weight but so much subtlety. Not simple sweetness but great profundity. Drinking range: 2018 - 2035 Rating: 18.5+ Jancis Robinson OBE MW - www.JancisRobinson.com (Jan 2016)

The 2012 L'Eglise Clinet is a real head-turner. Explosive and rich in the glass, the 2012 boasts superb depth throughout. Sweet floral and spiced notes develop first, followed by intense red and blue-fleshed fruit. Violets, mint, sage and sweet spices add nuance as the 2012 opens up, but it is really the wine's vertical structure that stands out above all else. I very much like the pure energy that is so central to the wine's personality. This is a superb showing, and one of the clear highlights of the year. Readers should cellar the 2012 for at least a few years. Drinking range: 2018 - 2032 Rating: 96 Antonio Galloni, www.vinous.com (Jan 2016)

Ch芒teau L'脡glise Clinet

In a region of modest architecture, the high-spired church in Pomerol tends to dominate the sky-line. Gathered around it, a trio of estates trumpet their proximity with their name 鈥 Domaine de l鈥橢glise, Clos l鈥橢glise and Ch芒teau l鈥橢glise Clinet. Infact, Clos l鈥橢glise Clinet and l鈥橢glise Clinet, separated only by a narrow lane, used to form a single estate until they were divided in inheritance in the latter half of the 19th Century. Initially, confusingly, called Clos de l鈥橢glise, the estate appended the lieu dit name and became Clos de l鈥橢glise Clinet, before finally settling on l鈥橢glise Clinet. The ch芒teau, such as it is, is quite modest 鈥 the ch芒teau proper being left with the Clos l鈥橢glise portion when the estate divided. The Ch芒teau l鈥橢glise Clinet story really begins when Denis Durantou took over in 1983 and turned a traditional if unexciting property into one of Pomerol鈥檚 superstars. New equipment in a small new chai were installed and meticulous attention has been paid to the vineyard. There are 6ha of vines given over to 85% Merlot and 14% Cabernet Franc with the last 1% being a plot of very old Malbec vines. Denis Durantou also owns Ch芒teau les Cruzelles in Lalande-de-Pomerol, Saintayme in Saint Emilion and Chateau Montlandrie in the C么tes de Castillon.
